Happy 100th birthday to a true Fort Worth legend, Dr. Opal Lee.

Ms. Opal has shown what persistence, courage, service, and love for community can make possible. Her advocacy helped carry Juneteenth from a Texas tradition to a federally recognized holiday, and her impact continues to shape Fort Worth and the nation.

Her legacy also lives on through the written word in Juneteenth: A Children’s Story, a book created to help young readers understand the history and meaning of Juneteenth, to her 2026 memoir A Committee of One, Ms. Opal has used storytelling to teach, encourage, and remind generations that meaningful change begins with people willing to keep showing up.

We are especially grateful for the way she has championed education, preserved history, and helped ensure important stories are carried forward at the Fort Worth Public Library. Thank you, Ms. Opal for reminding us that one person, one voice, and one determined step can move a community forward.

Happy 100th birthday 🧁 Fort Worth is better because you are part of it!

Join us for an evening of drinks, live music from Collin Browning, and a little midweek fun, all while supporting the The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation and the programs, resources, and opportunities that happen beyond the shelves.

Please help us welcome Brown to the The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation Board of Directors!

Camber is an Associate with GL Seaman & Company and when she’s not working or volunteering, you can find her crafting, sewing, running, fishing, hiking, taking a group fitness class, or trying a new recipe.

She joined the Foundation board with a desire to deepen her ties to Fort Worth, grow her experience in governance and capital campaigns, and help advocate for funding for library access as our city grows. She wants future generations to have the same opportunities and resources our community has come to depend on.

Welcome to the board, Camber!

We loved seeing so many students and families exploring what comes next at the Fort Worth Public Library college fair.

Our LaunchPad College Application Program team was there to remind students that they don’t have to navigate the application process alone.
From choosing schools and organizing applications to strengthening college essays, LaunchPad offers free, one-on-one guidance to help students approach the process with more clarity and confidence.

If you know a student who could use a second set of eyes on an essay please reach out. We’d love to help! Because sometimes the hardest part of the college application process is simply knowing where to start.

North Texas Giving Day ends at midnight, and this is your last chance to help us celebrate 125 years of the Library and set up the next 125.

Every dollar you give to the Foundation before midnight goes toward the same early literacy goals, storytimes, and reading resources that turn "someday readers" into learners, dreamers and doers!

Give now and help us reach our $35,000 goal →

Thank you for supporting your Fort Worth Public Library.

We’ve got a message from Madison to kick off North Texas Giving Day!

09/16/2026

North Texas Giving Day is tomorrow and we’ve got 125 years worth of celebrating.

For over a century, Fort Worth’s libraries have given our community places to read, learn, and imagine what comes next.

And today, for North Texas Giving Day, we get to give a little something back.

Thanks to 22 early donors, we’re already starting the day with $1,881 raised toward our $35,000 goal.

Your gift to the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation helps support programs that happen beyond the shelves including early literacy programs like 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, where families build a love of reading one story at a time.

Consider making a birthday gift today and helping Fort Worth keep learning for the next 125 years.
