Darvin Breaker died this pass June 17, 2025. He was a founding member of the Fort Worth Cactus and Succulent Society. He and JoAnn gave thousands of hours to the club and they were both great mentors and close friends to many. They were a special couple I was honored to know.

FWCSS Summer Plant Sale - Friday and Saturday, June 19-20, 2020.

We have a generous offer from the Wyler’s to host a club plant sale on their property near Weatherford. The address for the sale is 3401 FM 1189, Weatherford, Texas.

This will replace our usual Spring fund raiser that was cancelled due to the Corona situation. Bring your big hat, sunscreen, and mask and plan to join us at the sale on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20. Sale times will be from 9am until 6pm both days.

Remember to stay safe and practice social distancing - our vendors will be doing so and we ask that you do too. Let's all work together to take all recommended precautions and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thank you!

A couple of our members are hosting a small plant sale at their home this weekend. Here is a little info about it if you are looking to add a new plant (or a few) to your collection.

"If you want to do some warm-up plant-sale shopping, you are invited to my plant sale this Saturday. I will spread my plants out so there is plenty of space for social distancing, and I will wear a mask (when I am not drinking coffee or eating cookies, which will be provided!)

Thanks a bunch!

FWCSS Plant Show and Sale Cancelled

Greetings All,

Several of your club officers and other members feel that our plant sale scheduled for May 2-3, 2020, should be canceled. At this point, we do not know for certain that the Fort Worth Botanic Garden will even be open. They are closed at least until mid-April, and at that time will decide what to do going forward. So, it's best to cancel our show and sale now, and possibly try to reschedule sometime in the fall. As soon as I have more information as to a date for a fall sale, I will pass it on. For those planning to sell plants, this will give you another few months to get your plants ready.

Our April meeting on the 21st is also likely to be canceled - and it was bingo night! Again, you will be advised.

Until we meet again,

Karen Floyd
FWCSS - President

FWCSS Meeting 3/17/20 Cancelled

Members,

Several of you have contacted me about your concern for having our meeting Tuesday night due to the coronavirus. There has not been a serious outbreak in our area yet, but it is probably better to proceed with caution, so the meeting Tuesday night is cancelled. Hopefully things will be better next month and we can resume our meeting with Bingo on the menu.

Stay well,
Karen Floyd

Don't forget! Our meeting is tonight at 7pm in the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. This month's program will be presented by Buddy McIntyre and is title, "Our Changing Climate".

The climate of our planet is ever changing. These changes over time have impacted both animal and plants. Buddy will explore some of these changes and how the plants such as cactus and succulents have been effective. Buddy McIntyre worked for 30 years as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). With the NWS he had considerable experience studying and warning for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. His current interest is how the climate is changing and the impacts. Buddy is a graduate of Texas Christian University and has a M.S. in meteorology from Utah State University. After retiring from the NWS in 2010, Buddy was an adjunct instructor with Tarrant County College until 2017.

FWCSS Meetings are free and open to everyone - we hope you'll join us!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 19, 2019. We will all meet, as usual, in the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center meeting room at 7pm. Our very own Ross Floyd has generously agreed to present his program, "Searching for Cactus and Other Things in North New Mexico". Ross has years of experience locating and photographing Cactus and 'Other Things' in various locations throughout the United States. Come early to get a good seat for a great program.

Veronica Marquez from BRIT/ Fort Worth Botanical Gardens will also present an overview of the GROW volunteer program for the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.

See everyone there!
