Mexico City, 1905 - A waltz recording from Mexico that turned 121 years old this week. Too old for inclusion in Radio Dismuke, but that doesn't stop it from being interesting and enjoyable.
Some would say that the recording technology, 20 years before microphones were used, was primative. And, in one sense, that's correct.
On the other hand, it is still very pretty amazing that we can listen in on a group of then-famous musicians as they crowded themselves around a metal horn and played loudly enough so that the unamplified sound waves they generated could be captured for our enjoyment 121 years later. And, I suspect, there will be people enjoying it 121 years from now. It's about the closest thing to time travel that we have.
