📣 TEXAS FAMILIES—WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

On September 25, families from across Texas will walk the halls of Congress with United Against Fentanyl. We will carry the names, faces, stories, and voices of the people we love—and ask our leaders to take meaningful action against the fentanyl crisis.

But we need our Texas representatives to SHOW UP and hear us.

Today is National Fentanyl Prevention & Awareness Day — but prevention can’t end when today does.

Fentanyl continues to impact families across North Texas and communities throughout our country. And there is no single “type” of person or family who needs this information.

Prevention has to reach everyone!!

Illicit fentanyl can be found in counterfeit pills made to look like legitimate prescription medications and can also be mixed into other illicit drugs. You cannot reliably see, smell, or taste fentanyl.

That’s why conversations matter.

This weekend, we’re asking North Texas families to do something simple that could save a life:

Talk about fentanyl.

Talk with your children, teenagers, college students, friends, coworkers, and family members.

Make sure they know:
• Never take a pill that wasn’t prescribed to you and obtained directly from a licensed pharmacy.
• Counterfeit pills can look nearly identical to legitimate medication.
• Know the signs of an overdose.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it.
• If you suspect an overdose, call 911, administer naloxone if available, and stay with the person.
• Create a relationship where your kids know they can call you when something goes wrong — without worrying about judgment first.

Awareness isn’t about creating fear.

It’s about giving people the information they need before a decision, mistake, or unexpected exposure becomes irreversible.

At the North Texas Fentanyl Coalition, our mission is to bring families, organizations, schools, law enforcement, prevention professionals, community leaders, and advocates together around three things:

Awareness. Advocacy. Action.

Today we remember the lives already lost.
We stand beside the families forever changed.
And we keep working for the lives we can still protect.

We’re proud to recognize MHMR Tarrant as one of our community partners for Walk For Lives – Fort Worth.

Recovery, mental health, and hope are all part of the conversation when it comes to preventing substance use disorder and saving lives. MHMR Tarrant provides critical services, support, and resources to individuals and families throughout our community every day.

We’re grateful they’ll be joining us on July 11 to connect attendees with life-changing resources and remind everyone that healing is possible and no one has to walk this journey alone.

In just ONE WEEK, our community will come together for Walk For Lives – Fort Worth, and we’d love to have you join our volunteer team.

You don’t need any special experience—just a heart to serve or if you need community service hours we can sign off for it.

Volunteers are needed to help with:
💚 Registration & Check-In
💚 Greeting Participants
💚 Vendor & Resource Area
💚 Memorial Displays
💚 Set-Up & Take-down/ Clean-Up
💚 Encouraging and supporting families throughout the morning

Whether you can help for an hour or stay for the entire event, your time will make a difference.

Today is National Bereaved Parents Day.

Today, we honor every mother and father whose child is no longer here. We remember every life, every story, and every family carrying unimaginable loss.

Walk For Lives was created because no family should have to walk this journey alone. Every step we take is in memory of those we love and in hope that together we can prevent another family from experiencing this kind of loss.

To every bereaved parent in our community—we see you, we remember with you, and we walk beside you.

Today, we also want to thank the families, volunteers, community partners, sponsors, and advocates who are standing with us. Because of your support, we are building a community where grief is met with compassion, hope, and action.

Next week matters.

This documentary is different.

Dancing With Death is moving away from the old 70s/80s narrative that’s played at schools and into the reality of now—real families, real stories, and what fentanyl is doing to our communities today.

I’m honored (and honestly emotional) to be one of the local parents featured, sharing Kyle’s story (Kyle Still Speaks) and the work I’ve been part of here in North Texas alongside the Recovery Resource Council .

This isn’t just a film.
It’s prevention.
It’s awareness.
It’s faces behind the statistics.

If sharing our story helps even one family ask a different question, have a harder conversation, or pause before taking a risk—then it matters.

It is inconceivable that in Texas, the largest border state in the nation and the center of the border and Fentanyl crisis, Fentanyl Test strips are still illegal.

Texas Against Fentanyl TXAF and The Tucker Project are in need of signatures on a digital petition asking governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and the House and Senate to pass legislature to legalize testing strips. As many of us have been personally affected by the Fentanyl epidemic know, testing strips can help save lives, and The Fentanyl Test strips by Echna Lab LLC WILL save lives.

SHARING IS CARING: Don’t forget to join & attend the NTX Overdose Awareness Day tonight!

Only 2 more hours! They will be returning for their 5th year to the Lawn of the Denton Courthouse on the Square on Saturday, August 31, 6:30 p.m.

This free event is a passion project that strives to reduce the stigma of overdose and hopes to end opiod overdose. 300+ Americans die EVERY DAY to opiod overdose. We are here to educate, we are here to support, and we want to remember loved ones taken by this terrible epidemic!

Each year, we have some amazing and inspiring speakers. Our incredible sponsors and resource providers bring so much to this event; both in goodies and fun games but their information is invaluable! Be sure to take some time to stop by every table!

While you are there, save some time to do a bit of sidewalk shopping along the Denton Square! Many of these businesses support our cause and donate to make the event a success each year!
