52 years ago, Elvis Presley performed in Fort Worth at the Tarrant County Convention Center, on June 15 and 16, 1974. What a lucky audience!

Did you or someone you know attend the concerts?

We shared this a couple of years ago but thought all our new followers might enjoy it!

Today is National Paperclip Day. We come across a lot of paper clips in the Archives, and we love the varied designs. What’s your favorite?

The Tarrant County Archives has a set of Fort Worth Social Directories from 1937 through 2013 which may be helpful with your genealogy research. The Social Directories are quite exclusive, with entry requiring invitation or application with two letters of support from persons already included in the directory.

Social directories give information on socially active families, including marriages, maiden names, schools attended, memberships, children’s names and associations, and more. All of this can be great information for connecting individuals, getting full names for women, and identifying other resources that may provide additional information, like yearbooks or club archives.

Pictured is an example entry from the 1937 directory for Mr. and Mrs. Percy Faires. Going down line by line we see that Mrs. Faires name is Lillian Elizabeth nee Anderson, they live at 3136 S. Adams, and their phone number is listed.

Mr. Faires attended Willis College and is a Mason.

Mrs. Faires did not attend a higher education institution and is a member of the Woman’s Club.

Their oldest child is Veron Avon who attended Old Dominion Academy and Texas Christian University and is married to Elmira Adams.

Their second child is Knox Finley. Since he has no listings, he may be a minor at the time of publication.

This entry also states that the Faires family has a coat of arms.
