🌺 A Simple and Touching Offering to Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara — June 13, 2026, India
This morning in India, a local Indian man quietly approached Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra and offered 17 fruits of Jambu (Jamun or Java Plum) to him — a simple and wholesome gesture that moved us deeply. Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra received this offering with great joy and gratitude.
The true value of an offering does not rest in its material worth, but in the sincerity and purity of the heart that gives it. In a country where life is not always easy, this small and humble offering carried an extraordinary sweetness — the sweetness of loving-kindness, of generosity, and of quiet faith in those who walk the path of peace. It warmed our hearts more than words can express.
🌳 The Jambu Tree and Its Sacred Connection
The Jambu fruit also reminded us of a beautiful and ancient story. According to Buddhist scriptures, the Jambu tree holds a special place in the life of the Buddha. As a young child of around nine years old, the young Siddhattha sat in the cool shade of a Jambu tree. It was beneath that very tree that he entered his very first meditative state — a profound and foundational experience that would eventually guide him toward the meditation practices that led to his supreme enlightenment.
🍀 The Sweetness on the Path of Peace
Receiving this specific fruit on our journey carries a profound meaning for us. Just as the shade of the Jambu tree provided a sanctuary for the young prince to discover the peace within his own mind, this humble offering reminds us of the essence of our Walk for Peace.
Every step we take, and every encounter along the way, is a reminder that peace is not a distant destination, but a state of heart nurtured by small acts of kindness, mindfulness, and shared humanity. This simple gift of Jambu fruits refreshes our spirits and strengthens our dedication to keeping our footsteps pure and peaceful on this sacred path.
May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏
