Dear Hemphill Corridor Residents, Neighbors, and Businesses. The Transportation & Public Works Department initially met with the community on April 6th to discuss the findings of the Hemphill Street Corridor (from Hammond St to Vickery Blvd) follow-up traffic study.
At the meeting, the TPW team presented different options to keep current 3 lanes or restripe the Hemphill Corridor with different options. Noting the 3 lanes had reduced traffic incidents by 20%.
The revised report and survey now has four options to choose from and TPW and Hemphill Corridor Development Collaborative would like your input
1) No Change (3 lanes): Keep the existing configuration
2) Hybrid (5 to 3 lanes transition): Five lanes south of Allen Avenue
3) Back to all 5 lanes: Eliminate bike and skate protective lanes.
4) New modified Hybrid (5 to 3 lanes transition): Five lanes south of Berry Street.
TPW will not make any changes prior to meeting with the community again, updating them on the feedback received, and providing a final recommendation. Based on initial feedback on the options, we are also including a Modified Hybrid Option to provide feedback on the survey.
Anticipated:
Survey Feedback: June 22 to July 31.
Presentation on Final Recommendation: Late August
Restriping Project: Early 2027.
