Do you know your rights under Texas’ new bail laws? Earlier this year, Texas amended its constitution to expand pretrial detention with Proposition 3, also known as SJR5. At the same time, the state enshrined key legal protections for people awaiting trial - some of which are the first of their kind in a state constitution. Swipe to learn more about this new law, what it means for Texas’ pretrial system, what your rights are, and what we are doing to protect pretrial freedom and uphold the presumption of innocence!

We are the Texas Pretrial Justice Coalition, a group of grassroots and advocacy organizations dedicated to creating a more just and equitable pretrial system in Texas.
Our goal is to maximize pretrial liberty, eliminate wealth-based detention, and ensure all people are treated equally under the law.

Our Current Priorities:
💸Oppose legislative proposals seeking to increase pretrial detention and cash bail.
⛓️‍💥Increase release without financial conditions for people charged with low-level offenses
💪Strengthen due process and legal protections for those facing pretrial detention under Prop 3
📝Expand the use of cite and release programs to avoid unnecessary detention
👩‍⚖️Ensure public access to pretrial court proceedings to improve transparency
💬Increase the use of text message reminders to help people get back to court

We envision a Texas where no person remains in jail because they cannot afford their way out, and where our legal system prioritizes fairness, accountability, community safety, and equal justice for all.

as a reminder our NEXT CARE PACKAGE PARTY is THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 12TH 7PM at Apprentice Creative Space ‼️😤 this will be our last care package party before our official break begins, so we want to pack a whole lot!!! PLEASE BRING INDIVIDUALLY-WRAPPED SNACKS AND WATER BOTTLES WE NEED ‘EM BAD! please keep in mind that snacks are our limiting factor, so the more snacks we have the more care packages we can make!

come join like-minded community members as we assemble care packages for our unhoused neighbors! bring your friends & family! kids are always welcome, masks are highly encouraged 😷 thank you to our good friends izzy & cecil at Mask Bloc DFW (is active as of May 2026) for always providing us with masks for both our volunteers and packages :)

hey community! our 5th ANNUAL SUMMER WATER DRIVE is officially here‼️💦 🥳
in collaboration with Dallas Sandwich Sundays! FunkyTownFridge Denton Water Project and Dallas Neighbors for Housing we aim to get as much clean, free water as we can to our houseless neighbors and we’ve got plenty of water drop-off locations lined up around the metroplex!

💜 Funky Town Fridges are located in parts of Fort Worth and provide free, fresh food and water to their surrounding communities

🚰 The Denton Water Project has coolers and pantries strategically located around Denton to help increase access to free water

👥 Volunteer with Dallas Neighbors For Housing to help distribute water

💸 Monetary donations can be sent via cashapp/venmo to siwycdtx

Drop off water at a drop-off location or pick up water and distribute it! You can:
💧fill a local pantry/cooler/fridge
💧freeze bottles to keep in a lunchbox and give them out in your neighborhood or on your commute
💧keep water in a cooler outside your home or local business
💧distribute any way you can as long as it’s SAFE AND FREE

there’s no sign up necessary, just get out there and let the spirit of mutual aid move you - we strongly encourage you to be intentional when distributing and to consider the people you’re helping more than your desire to help 🌞 y’all hold it down for the houseless homies during our break!
