Hey. We’re still here.

Ok, but where have we been..?
Well, we moved. Half way across the country and all the way to the Durham area of North Carolina! We’re still getting settled in and learning our new home, but we’re looking forward to finding new partners in our area and getting back to the work we love to do.

Over the course of 2024, we’ll be announcing some shifts and changes so be sure to stay up to date by joining our mail listing and following us here.

This year is all about rest, rejuvenation, and reset. Won’t you join us?

One of the most breathtaking moments I experienced recently was on our last retreat with Grit Plus Gumption:

We went to the beach at sunset. We’d planned a ritual to close our time together. ( would be so proud!)

As we approached the water, we noticed many others had gathered there as well. But with as many people who were there, the beach was still…silent. It was one of the most quiet and reverent moments I’ve ever experienced.

After we finished our ritual, we stared at the horizon for what seemed like an hour, just watching the waves clap back and forth.

It was holy. Reverent. Sacred.

I’m so lucky to be able to experience these moments with the work I get to do with these amazing warrior women.

Has it been a rough week?
Yeah. Me too.

There’s healing in community. Knowing we are not facing our struggles alone, or that we’re not alone in our fight can encourage us to keep fighting another day.

That’s why safe community is a cornerstone to what we do at Grit Plus Gumption.

Tell me about your favorite season. 🍁
Many people find newness is spring and fall, but I love any change of season. I find excitement in the sun, the snow, the chilly winds of Fall, and the warmth of a spring day after a few months of cold.

Retreat Day 2:
The day was so beautiful we decide to do EVERYTHING at the beach. We stayed all day.

On our second day, we always share our intentions for the trip, and then we share our stories.

Normally we share our stories of harm, but this trip is all about empowerment. We reflect back on the last year and a half and celebrate how far we’ve come.

And that is something to be grateful for. 💛🙌🏽

Retreat Day 1 (Yesterday)

We all traveled to Southwest Florida yesterday evening to meet for our final retreat with two of our DV survivors.

We came together. We laughed hysterically and caught up. We got in late, so not much else other than eating and picking up groceries. Then it’s time for bed and looking forward to the next day.

Just like our mental health some days, we’re a little off this week.

We are prepping for our LAST retreat with two of our DV Warriors, and I won’t lie. It’s mayhem. 😆

So don’t mind us. We’re just gonna post beach pics for the next week until we get there…and then we’ll post more.

How does story work benefit survivors of DV, IPV, and SE?

Here, one of our partners, gives a testimony about how the work helped their clients on their healing journey.

“Story Work, led by Wendy J Olson, has been instrumental in starting the healing process with women who have experienced sexual exploitation. Story Work opened the door for vulnerability, letting go of shame and the beginning of embracing a life where their past no longer defined their present or their future and where the victim becomes the overcomer. I watched women bring light to the deepest and darkest places that they were holding tightly by simply opening up and talking and allowing that "thing" to no longer control them or their emotions. Story Work is hard work, but it is effective and important in the healing process.”

We love a collaborative working relationship, and Valiant Hearts is one of our favorite anti-trafficking organizations to partner with here in the DFW area. We are so grateful to know them and to get to know their clients as our own as we develop and carve out a path for healing for each of them.
