Fort Worth holds a special place in the story of freedom, thanks in large part to Opal Lee, whose determination and unwavering spirit helped make Juneteenth a national holiday. Through decades of walking, advocating, and educating, she reminded us that freedom for all is something worth honoring, protecting, and passing on to future generations.
As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors, we celebrate the progress we have made while remembering the stories, sacrifices, and resilience that brought us here. Fort Worth is proud to be the hometown of the Grandmother of Juneteenth and to continue carrying her legacy forward.
This week, that spirit comes alive through Freedom Vibes, a citywide celebration of music, culture, storytelling, and community presented by the National Juneteenth Museum. From concerts and workshops to gatherings that honor our shared history, it's an opportunity to celebrate freedom together and experience the joy, pride, and connection that define Juneteenth in Fort Worth.
