Passing of Deputy Katherine Frank -

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office SD announces with profound sadness the passing of Deputy Katherine Frank, age 26, earlier today. Deputy Frank was surrounded by her family and loved ones in her final moments. In her final act of service and generosity, she became an organ donor, continuing to help others even in her passing. Katherine worked at the South Dakota State Penitentiary from September 2022 until being hired with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office in June 2024.

Deputy Frank’s death is a significant loss to our agency and to the broader law enforcement community in and around Sioux Falls. She served the citizens of Minnehaha County with professionalism, humility, and dedication. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who have had the privilege of working alongside her.

A memorial has been established at the Law Enforcement Center located at 320 W. 4th St., Sioux Falls, SD, for those who wish to pay their respects. The Sheriff’s Office will also continue maintaining a presence at the hospital as we support her family during this difficult time.
Further information regarding funeral services, honors, and departmental arrangements will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Deputy Frank served with dignity and heart. Her service made a meaningful difference, and her impact will remain with us always.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💙🇺🇸🫡

Figure we should post some good things about our brothers and sisters!

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Deputy Vigil shares what her heritage means to her: "I take great pride in being Hispanic, not only during Hispanic Heritage Month, but every day. I take pride in where I come from, the sacrifices that were made for me, and the values my mother taught me: strength, resilience, hard work, compassion, and the belief that dreaming big is possible. Coming to the United States as an immigrant child and not knowing the language shaped who I am today.

Being fluent in Spanish has allowed me to stay connected to my roots, my culture, and my people, while also giving me the opportunity to help others. Working in law enforcement has been one of the greatest opportunities in my life because it allows me to serve and remain connected to the Hispanic community. I’m proud to use my voice, my culture, and my ability to communicate in Spanish to help those who may need it. This month, I celebrate where I come from, the sacrifices that came before me, and the responsibility I must carry those values forward. I am proud of my heritage, proud of my roots, and proud to serve my community"
