Annie Louise Foundation invites you stand with us in support of the Armstrong family as we celebrate the beautiful life of Leo James.

We are so grateful to know this family thanks to Leo’s little sister, Dorothy. As medical mothers, having experienced loss ourselves, and walking alongside several families through their loss of a child we are honored to serve this role for Lauren and Harley during this inconceivable time.

On Wednesday July 22nd Leo was swinging on a tree swing when the branch broke causing him to fall on his head as well as massive injuries from the heavy branch to his skull. He underwent a craniotomy, but the internal bleeding was severe. His parents, who know the world of pediatric surgery well, are more than content with the acute care Leo was given by CHOA Scottish Rite. Lauren refers to them as family now.

Dozens and dozens of family members and friends poured in on Thursday and Friday to see Leo and pray with him. This brought tremendous comfort.

Lauren shared that she overheard a conversation Leo had with his friends recently stating that he wanted to opt in to be an organ donor when he got his driver’s license. What a gift it is to know this now. Leo was an extremely healthy young man who ran very far distances on his cross country team. This means his lungs and organs are going to give life to many adults and children waiting on a miracle. Mom and dad feel entirely at peace with this, knowing it was his own wish.

100% of this fund for Leo will be given to the family with no fees or charges taken out. Donations will be used to cover funeral expenses as well as start his legacy fund.

There is such a tremendous outpouring of love the Armstrongs have already felt. We encourage you to have a long term mind set when it comes to loving this family. Be there for them in 4 months, be there for them in 10 months and in the years down the road. Grief is a long journey and requires endurance and pacing, just like Leo’s love for running.

Thank you all for your tender care,

Courtney and Katie

So what all did yall plan at this “day of respite?”

Our day was open from 11:00am-6:00 pm and we provided:

🦋 water aerobics class taught by Ms Michelle Edwards out of Weatherford. We weren’t just swishing and kicking we were singing along! She was so fun and we already want to book with her again. Physical wellness- check

🦋 chair massage- moms got to sign up for a time slot to enjoy a shoulder and back massage with the lovely Emily Kaellner. She was the hit of the day! Self care and physical healing- check

🦋 smoothie station- the smoothie guide I created that healed little Miss Annie Louise’s gut of constipation and changed her entire growth and health. This WILL be a resource coming to the website when my precious children go back to school. I have shared one on one with countless mothers and helped their children get off Miralax. This was really such a joy to share in person. Also, while we’re here- Taylor Dukes is our newest partner in getting her protein to families who need it. Keep an eye out for more on this!

🦋 needlepoint 101 lead by the queens themselves Katie and Erin Saintly Stitches | Catholic Needlepoint we had a whole room full of moms learning! It’s really so incredible what this fine motor skill does for the nervous system to calm and steady. It is so perfect for medical and disability moms.

🦋 gifted everyone a fun swag bag full of yummy snacks, self care items, crafts and an ALF comfort colors shirt

🦋 freedom to do WHATVER THEY WANTED TO DO!
Float. Nap. Chat. Sip. Dance. Shop. No interruptions.

🦋 community and friendship- the best part of all. Priceless.

Thank yous are in order to every single person who supported our vision for our mom’s summer day of respite with their time, gifts, resources and donations.

THANK YOU:

🍑 The Hejl Family- the Hejls have supported ALF since day one, being family to Louise. Our Moms truly felt like they had stepped into a vacation being in their home. Not having to rent a “venue” gave us a huge jump start in planning this day!

🍑 our volunteers- oh my. I underestimated how many hands we would need. Mary Ann (see second photo) reached out 48 hours before generally offering to serve the foundation anytime. I asked how about this weekend?! She kept the entire day flowing and was our cruise director! Nurse Allison who has cared for and prayed over soooo many babies both at this event in our city in general was such a blessing of support as well. Our Annie Louise Foundation | TCU Chapter college worker bees 😱 did so much of the lifting so Katie and I could focus on conversations with the mamas! We can’t get over the work ethic of these college kids
Special thank you to for her photography skills! Blown away by her talent.

🍑 Saintly Stitches | Catholic Needlepoint Erin is a fellow disability mom and hand painted 26 custom canvases for us at *no cost so these moms could learn the art of needlepoint

🍑 Restore + Revive Wellness Center our loyal local best friends who are always helping us care for Fort Worth moms- thank you for the goodies you donated to add to our gift bags!

🍑 Luna Grill Clearfork donated our entire lunch saving us an entire section of our budget (which allowed for more chair massage time!) we are THANKFUL for this generosity we were truly not expecting! The moms loved the meal and it was so allergen friendly to all sorts of diets

🍑 Lilbelle this is the forth (!!) round of beautiful high end clothing Lil has sent us (Lousie’s aunt!) from her store to spoil these moms. If you need a special outfit or dress please shop Lilbelle my goodness- the most generous small business owner of all time!! We love you Aunt Lil.

🍑 Olive Tree Body Care for discounting our order so we could send your amazing salt scrub to every mother!

Our first ☀️ mom’s summer day of respite ☀️was everything we hoped it would be and more!

This day took so many volunteers and supporters to pull off- see next post with more photos for a full THANK YOU!!

We are so proud of each mom who showed up and prioritized herself. It can take a great deal of coordinating to have everything covered for some medical/disability moms. One of our favorite parts was how many new faces there were! “No mom ever feeling alone” is our little slogan that motivates us. Living this motherhood journey with community can change everything.

This past Saturday we were able to celebrate and support one of our own- Parker Elliston + her parents at her second annual “Claws for a Cause”

Parker and Annie were both home napping by the time we got to take a photo 🤍☺️

Mom Alexis has been helping the foundation for the last 6 months especially during heart month as Parker is a heart warrior!

Read more about Parker’s story below. We would love to collect donations through ALF for the Elliston family to directly pay medical bills with the series of surgeries this sweet girl has coming up! Donations can be made on our website main giving page and noted “Parker”

“Parker is a 2-year-old Symes amputee, and she has undergone 18 surgeries in her short life, from open heart surgery, spinal surgery, colonic procedures, amputation, and ileostomy placement. Parker is currently living with an ileostomy while we allow her intestines and colon to hopefully heal. We will begin retesting this upcoming June to evaluate our next steps.

Parker continues to struggle with staying healthy through normal colds and viruses, resulting in frequent admissions to manage her ileostomy, fevers, and hydration. Parker has a duplex kidney and abnormal bladder conditions, resulting in recurrent UTIs that we are continuing to struggle to find an answer for. Each UTI is more aggressive, more resistant to antibiotics, and leads us back to the hospital.

We would love to have you join us to celebrate the journey Parker has already fought through and to help us encourage her as we continue to fight for our strong girl”.

Our hearts leapt seeing these mothers share photos on this special day in our dresses that we have sold to fund our work.

All four medical and disability mamas, all with their own stories about their babies here and in heaven.

We are honored and we are so proud to support this community 🤍🤍🤍

Thank you for helping us season after season
