What does it mean to wear the Red Coat?

Since 1957, the Mad Anthonys Red Coat has served as one of Northeast Indiana’s highest civic honors. It is a symbol of transformative leadership, exceptional achievement, and an unwavering commitment to our region.

Over the decades, the Red Coat has honored world-class athletes, business pioneers, local philanthropists, and national leaders—from Neil Armstrong, Bob Knight, and Peyton Manning to Vera Bradley’s Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, Chuck Surack, and Purdue Fort Wayne's Coach Jon Coffman.

While their accomplishments span every industry, every Red Coat honoree shares one common trait: they use their success to uplift others.

Their leadership drives our annual Red Coat Gala and Pro-Am, generating the vital grant funding that supports local children, youth mentorship, and family health programs across Northeast Indiana. When you see a Red Coat, you’re looking at a legacy of giving back to the community we call home.

What began as a last-minute Pro-Am on the eve of the 1956 PGA of America Fort Wayne Open has evolved into a venerable tradition. For decades, the Mad Anthonys Foundation, led by local philanthropists, business leaders, and community partners, has united Northeast Indiana to raise millions of dollars for charitable causes, with a strong focus on children's initiatives.

Beyond the immediate impact of fundraising, this network helped elevate Fort Wayne's profile by bringing golf’s most recognizable personalities and Indiana’s prominent leaders to our city.

Today, that core mission remains unchanged. Through our signature events, including the annual Mad Anthonys Foundation Pro-Am Tournament and the Red Coat Gala, we continue to leverage our community network to deliver high-impact grants to local nonprofits.

We are accepting grant applications from registered non-profits serving youth right here in our region. We are looking to fund impactful projects focused on youth sports and recreation, scholarships for economically disadvantaged youth, and infrastructure improvements for playgrounds and athletic facilities in underserved neighborhoods.
