Dick's Organics

Dick's Organics 7 acres SW side of Fort Wayne, orchard, greenhouse, nonprofit farm feeding homeless and those in need. It's important to know that we do adaptive farming.

Rick Ritter is an advanced master gardener and a master naturalist who grows organically and sustainably on 7 acres (depending on the year) for donation to those in need. I have gardened in one form or another since the early 1950's. I grow out old seeds on the ground i have been blessed with and work toward sustaining those old seeds or plants (fruit trees and bushes). I was blessed to utilize la

nd i didnt own on 5 acres on Decatur Road (worked 7 years organically) or the rotating organic hay ground of Wood Farms. At times I have additionally been blessed to have a group of volunteer planters/harvesters who put their back into the tasks of growing food for those in need. The food grown is donated to St Mary's Soup Kitchen and other church food banks and miscellaneous efforts to feed those who are in dire need of nutritious food. This is supported by my greenhouse, the rescue animals that reside here at their forever home and the generosity of a few that share the vision. It is indeed a continuation of the work i did as trauma therapist for 36 years - the work of healing and sharing my abundance with others - peace. The importance of homemade compost is a valuable lesson to share with kids. Teach them the function of compost and how it sustains a healthy Square Foot Garden. Whether you’re composting at home or giving a lesson on how to separate lawn materials, it's the perfect learning opportunity for kids!

In the photo, Janet Crozier from Lampasas Garden is teaching kids all about composting! Through her free classes, she introduces young learners to the fundamentals of the Square Foot Gardening Method and shows how simple composting can be.

There’s nothing I love more than growing from seed. Watching something so tiny turn into something full of life never stops amazing me. Every time a seed germinates, it feels like a small miracle, proof that nature still has a kind of quiet magic that never fades.

It doesn’t matter how many times I do it, that first bit of green pushing through the soil always makes me stop and stare. It’s simple, but it’s everything I love about gardening.
