It's been a long winter and spring, but the East Wayne Street Center's high school equivalency program has returned to form! We currently offer late afternoon and evening opportunities for one-on-one/classroom assistance with earning your high school diploma.

The current schedule is Monday to Thursday, from 3:30pm to 7pm. We unfortunately do not offer childcare or transportation, though this may change down the road.

The Monday/Wednesday food bank availability is also on hiatus, but will be up and running again soon. When we have more information available, we will share it with you here!

Our many, many thanks for sticking with us during our time of readjustment and change! πŸ‘

10/28/2024

UPDATE: Due to internal issues and matters of reorganization and realignment, EWSC's food bank and HSE (high school equivalency) programs, effective starting today, will be going on hiatus through November, with a prospective return in December.

There will be no new registrations or tutoring appointments made during this time, with all existing appointments being canceled immediately.

We sincerely apologize for this major inconvenience. However, we will be looking forward to seeing you all once again after the dust has settled!

Our thanks to you,
EWSC Staff

Board gaming as a family activity is already ripe with benefits from a social standpoint, but the healthy activity creates advantages in other ways. In addition to exercising basic arithmetic skills in young children, simple gaming enforces rules-based learning, and offers ways to help kids understand the value of structure.

For example, have the child help clean up after the game. Show them how to properly put away gaming pieces and cards so that the game remains in good shape. Not only does this enforce values of organization and responsibility in the short-term, but it also acts as a foundation for what can surely become life-long skills used in other areas of their life. πŸ‘

Board games based on numbers, like Monopoly, Othello and Chutes and Ladders, make young children better at math, according to a comprehensive review of research published on the topic over the last 23 years.

Ridgeview Hospital, located in Middle Point, Ohio, is an inpatient behavioral health treatment center. You may wonder why I'm sharing with you a program that's out-of-state! They are particularly helpful in that even those who live in Fort Wayne can take advantage of their programs and services, including transportation! If you live within 200 miles of their facility, you are eligible for this assistance.

They offer dual diagnosis programs, that identify and help treat both psychiatric and substance use issues that an individual may have. Though accommodations are made to make sure each person's needs are met, there are options for community-focused treatment through group therapy, which is a great way to not only share one's experiences, but perhaps help someone else along the way, too!

Pricing-wise, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted, as well as a variety of insurance plans, but there are pricing options for those who are uninsured as well.

In case you or someone you care for may need help through a particularly difficult time, visit Ridgeview Hospital's website at www.RidgeviewHospital.net to learn more about their programming, pricing options, transportation options, and how they can best serve your needs.

Ready now to speak with admissions? Give them a call at (419) 780-3488.
