CHS grads and former students, this is a property owned by Darla Leggett of the class of 1959. We are all saddened by the sad news she shares.
We are very sad to share with you that Grandma's House at Ronora was lost to fire this week. No one was hurt. The cause cannot be determined due to the degree of damage. It has been a comfort hearing from friends, family and our community of Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship as news of the fire has been shared. The building was beautiful, built in the 30's with lots of Arts and Crafts features. It is now in ashes . . . burnt to the ground. All of us are saddened...as if a favorite friend has departed. She, Grandma's House, housed many retreats such as Adodi Brothers, Butterfly Girls, Sistah-Sistah, Step Sisters, UU Women, Native Wisdom, Charla Herman, Zenobi, Karen, Sharee', Niambi, Jewish Children Services, Earth Wisdom, Inca Shamans, Test Positive Awareness, Born Woman, Siberian Shamans, Underground Railroad, Tarwater, Eagleman, Mike Toaty, Buster Yellow Kidney, Gay Women of China, Earlfriend's Gay Cultural Group, David Wolf, Adam Graham Raw Programs, HAI, Gretchen's Drum Group, Archie Cheechoo, Reiki, Rawnora, Girlfriend Gathering, Yoga Workshops, family reunions and weddings. This list goes on and on . . . 33 years of being available for these intentional, alternative groups and families. We are honored to be the care-takers of this beautiful land. Grandma's House will be missed . . . but from the ashes we hope to build! We are so lucky to have the Ronora Staff of Cubby, Teresa-Maria, Shanna, Lisa-Marie, Tracie, Anthony, Ian, Daphne, Edilia, Joni, and all BUUF folks who love and support us in our sad time. Thank you for your generous offers to help with the cleanup and fundraising. Our insurance company requires cleaning be done by professionals with the proper protective clothing and equipment, but we welcome help in other areas . . . gardening, horse care, and funding for the horses. Be well dear friends, we treasure you all. - Hunter, Jim and deej
