SERMON OUTLINE
LABOR OF LOVE: “Love Has Work Clothes”
Main Text: James 2:17 NIV

1. LOVE SHOWS UP
1 John 3:18 NIV
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

2. LOVE SERVES DOWN
Mark 10:45 NIV
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”

3. LOVE LEAVES SOMETHING BETTER
Matthew 5:16 NIV
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Key Thought

We don’t just go to church—we go BE the church. Faith works. Love serves. Jesus gets the glory.

Discussion Questions
1. “Love shows up.” What is one practical way you can become more present to the needs of people around you?

2. Read 1 John 3:18. What is the difference between saying we love people and demonstrating that love through our actions?

3. “Love serves down.” How does Jesus’ example in Mark 10:45 challenge our culture’s definition of greatness and leadership?

4. “Love leaves something better.” What could change in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and community if Christians consistently lived out Matthew 5:16?

5.This week, what is one specific action you can take to put on your “work clothes” and allow someone to experience the love of Jesus through you?

Help us pray for the city of Fort Wayne. Jeremiah 29:7 "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city.... Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. PERSISTENCE: What obstacle in your life is currently tempting you to give up, and what would persistent faith look like?

2. PARTNERSHIP: Who are the people in your life who consistently help carry you toward Jesus rather than away from Him?

3. Whose “corner of the mat” might God be calling you to carry during this season?

4. PRIORITY: Why do you think Jesus addressed the man's forgiveness before addressing his paralysis?

5. Are you asking God to change something around you while He may be trying to change something within you?

6. PROOF: What is something that once represented weakness, pain, or limitation in your life that God could now use as part of your testimony?

7. After studying Mark 2:1–12, what is one area of your life where you need to adopt a “Whatever It Takes” kind of faith?
