Twelve Cities

Twelve Cities Fostering a culture of creativity and innovation through entrepreneurship, social connectivity, and immersive education. More information: www.twelvecities.com

In 2011, 18 year-old Fort Wayne native Nick Arnett ventured out on an ambitious twelve city tour to study how cities foster innovation, enhance their entrepreneurial ability, and catalyze economic growth. What he found was that at the very core of entrepreneurial and economic development, social connectivity was the driving force maximizing the impact. Twelve Cities seeks to foster a culture of cr

eativity and innovation through entrepreneurship, social connectivity, and immersive education. We work towards our mission through our three core aspects of programming: Twelve Cities Project, Twelve Cities Fellowship, and CitySquared.

Creating a radio station out of garbage. Building an arcade out of cardboard. Crazy, right? It was a few years...

This post is a bit (okay, a lot) late, so let me start off by saying this: You’ll likely see me posting less about my observations during each trip until the entire project is completed. Throughout the trips I’ve made so far, I’ve come to realize that some of my thoughts, opinions, and perspectives…

Already enjoying this week's trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan.. even the snow. :)

A few years ago, I remember coming across an article in Newsweek pointing to Grand Rapids, Michigan, as one of America’s “fastest dying cities”. The piece cited a few statistics that shed light on the city’s recent decline in population and - as if no further consideration was given - wrote the city...

The conditions may be right, but will we see a storm?

I’ve long made the argument that cities are the engines of innovation that push humanity forward and have a duty to enable humanity to tackle its grand challenges. To describe it, I typically relate it to a weather system. You wake up one morning to find out that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has b...

Here's to the visionaries.

After a few recent conversations, I feel compelled to write about a topic that’s surfaced in many conversations lately: The importance of visionaries. Every city has them. They’re the thinkers, the re-thinkers, the innovators and the dreamers. They have an enormous capacity to see “what could hav...
