As we reflect on Good Friday, one of Bach’s most moving works comes to mind:

“Erbarme dich, mein Gott” from the St. Matthew Passion

This aria is sung after Peter denies Jesus three times — a moment of deep sorrow, guilt, and humanity.

Set for alto voice, violin, and continuo, the music feels like a quiet weeping. The violin line gently weaves around the voice, almost like tears falling — expressing repentance and longing for mercy.

Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1727, the St. Matthew Passion was written for Good Friday services in Leipzig, where Bach served as music director.

Nearly 300 years later, its message still resonates:
a reflection on grace, forgiveness, and what it means to be human.

Take a moment to listen. 🎻
