-Dr. Durado Brooks, Vice President of Prevention and Early Detection at the American Cancer Society.

It's imperative that we work towards a future that entails healthcare as a human right, and allows the public to have access to free screenings. The mortality rate for black men especially has increased in recent years. 11% of men diagnosed this year with colon cancer will be under 50 years of age.

Chadwick Boseman was 43 years old.

Men in their 50s and older "have gotten the message," says Dr. Lynn O’Connor. But 11 percent of those who are diagnosed this year will be under 50.

Daniel Prude was taken off of life support on March 30th, 7 days after an encounter with the Rochester, NY police department. His death received no media attention and happened before the tragic death of George Floyd. His family had not come forward due to not having bodycam footage released. Daniel Prude was having a mental health episode, and police responded to a call placed by his brother Joe. Although Daniel was having a mental health episode, he complied with police requests, and was handcuffed. A spit hood was then placed over Daniel's head. After trying to stand, police held down Daniel, pressing their hands onto his face with their full weight. For 3 minutes, until they noticed he was unconcious. They only stopped because they saw fluid coming out of his mouth. It is IMPERATIVE police departments include mental health training in their curriculum, and also have mental health professionals a part of the force that are trained in descalation techniques. Mental health episodes are something police deal with every day. This is something mental health professionals are trained in and have education in. We need change. Please vote! This Saturday From Firm Fort Wayne!!!

"The purpose of this event is to get everyone together for physical activity in support of Black Lives Matter! With an emphasis on the Black community, our health is apart of what matters! We are going to be biking for 8 miles (4 miles to Foster Park, and 4 miles back) with the 8 miles symbolizing the 8 minutes and 46 seconds Officer Chauvin’s knee was in George Floyd’s neck. We are asking that everyone who attends wears all black in solidarity with the movement and the community! The path never touches the street, and we are prepared to match volunteers with different groups of kids in attendance! Please RSVP for us to get an idea of a headcount! We will have light HEALTHY refreshments as well as water and information to give you at designated checkpoints. Bikes are not required but are highly recommended, as the 8 mile trip is a 2.5 hour walk. If you would like to come and do not have a bike, please reach out to [email protected]
