Reading and Lehigh Railroad, N scale This page is dedicated to the Reading & Lehigh Railroad (freelance, N scale model RR in 1950). If you are a model railroader, then this page is for you!
(16)

The Reading & Lehigh is a free-lanced N-scale model railroad, set in 1951-1952. The in-universe history of the layout, is that the Reading Railroad and Lehigh Valley Railroad merged during World War 2, in order to survive. The Reading was the dominant partner: the Reading had the eagerness for expansion and the corporate know-how, while the Valley had a wider footprint and an outlet to the Great L

akes. The layout is located in the DC-metropolitan area (MD), and is two-levels, and a quasi-third level under the main, which just helps expand the running distance of the main line.

THIS JUST IN: READING & LEHIGH RAILROAD MOVES CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS TO FORMER ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL COMPLEX!

Haha. Not quite, but im not finished here. For those who remember yesterday's post, my troponin level was 5000 on admission. Then it went to 6000. This morning, it hit 19,000!

So, they performed a cardiac catheterization which found a sizeable blood clot, which precipitated the deployment of two stents. Its not yet known if they're letting me have them, or im renting them.

However, the cardiologist said I was a fluke! When asked what he meant, he clarified: I dont jave plaque, nor CAD. He said now he has to find the source of the clots.

So tomorrow, I go under general anesthesia so they can perform some examinations - from the inside.

Im a bit....well, terrified. I dont like to admit that, being the big bad retired cop/veteran that i am. But the whole process has left me vulnerable, and not just a little humiliated.

To all of my fellow modelers and railfans, dont wait to go to the hospital. I did because I wasn't going to be the one to delay the 2102. But any other time, go get checked.

Enjoy this Pic of my R&L gear here at the hospital, where I have ensured that each nurse leaves my room knowing how to instantly recognize Reading locomotives vs other roads. (J/k. The staff here has been fantastic)

Remember all of those math problems we hated in school, the word problems? If a train leaves Pittsburgh you have 60 miles an hour, what time does it get to philly? That kind of crap?

Well, when you think of it, the 4014 trip has really allowed people to flex their math skills, and we finally use the things we learned!

- I didn't make the meme, someone sent it to me in the hospital to cheer me up, and I had to post it!

Update - my tropinin levels continue to increase, and have just hit 6,000. So they just came to take me down to the catheterization lab, but someone on an ambulance kicked me out of place, so I'm still in the room.

But, I'm confident I should be home in a day or two and back to work like normal. So I'm hoping anyway

Mini-Ops on the Reading and Lehigh Railroad, N scale !
- Before heading to the R&N to see 4014, I had to showcase the progress on the R&L. I conducted a short operating session on the shelf so far, to prove it could be done. And it can.

Arriving locals pull thru the Jacobs Aircraft Engine Plant, but then have to back down the arriving track to pass the switch so they can run around. The engine can the switch the feed mill and the Finished Products track (where empties come in to receive fully finished aircraft engines. Different from the plant loading tracks where materials and parts come in, and some assembled components are shipped from).

Engines shoving can only do 3 cars at a time, or they run out of room on the Bell Telephone Pole track (and if theres a gondola in there, then you can do ever fewer).

Hopefully, Andre and I can start construction on the main layout next weekend (I should be home from thr hospital by then)

Well my friends, let me tell you that yesterday's journey behind 2102, to see 4014, was absolutely incredible! It was a once in a lifetime experience. It was a day of friends, fun, a steam powered excitement on the high iron. Unfortunately, the day did not end well, for me.

I woke up in the morning and had a dull, achy pain in both arms (which didn't concern me, because i slept on my mom's couch, and I assumed I slept wrong). So off I went, met up with Harsimus Division Model Railroad and Beth N Adam Willey , and had a blast. But the pain in my arms wouldn't go away.

Fast forward to the trip back from Pittston. On the train, the arm pain got worse, and now included chest pain. A dull, weight-like pain. Indeed, anyone who say me in that train car probably thought I was having some sort of fit, because I was moving in every possible way, to try to find a position that didnt bring me pain.

Then there was the medical emergency outside of Penobscot Yard. No, that wasn't me, but I very nearly considered getting on that ambulance too. But I refused to delay the train.

When we got back to my car, I began the trek back to DC, but after speaking with my sister, decided to get check out.

And so I entered St. Joseph' Hospital Emergency Room by the Reading Airport, and found out that my tropinin level was 5,000 - normal is 14. I had a cardiac episode of some kind.

So now, I await the visit of a cardiologist, and a likely cardiac catheterization.

Wish me luck!
