Today scouts in Van Buren attended a Flag Retirement Ceremony hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1322 Robert Jack VFW Post 1322. After a flag folding demonstration and learning about the meaning and symbolism of the American flag, the scouts had the opportunity to help fold three large flags and several smaller flags in preparation for retirement.

Senator Jim Petty was impressed by the number of scouts who came to honor the flags and their service. As a special keepsake, he presented each scout with a Senate coin.

The scouts were also able to participate in the retirement ceremony by placing several flags into the fire before the ceremony concluded.

I am thankful that Scouting provides opportunities like this, allowing our youth to learn respect, service, patriotism, and the importance of honoring our nation's symbols. Experiences like these help create memories and lessons that will stay with them for years to come. 🇺🇸🔥⚜️
