Evan's Project

Evan's Project Charitable organization providing photography services to parents of infants in the Neonatal Intensi Evan was born on March 10, 2009. Stephanie Freeman, Founder

Evan's Project started as a dream to honor my friends, Sean and Monica Bumgarner and in memory of their sweet angel, Evan. He joined our Father in heaven on March 16, 2009. Although his life was short, he had a major impact on those around him and his family. From their experience, and from my own, I know that the last thing a parent is thinking of when their baby is in the NICU is getting picture

s. When a healthy baby is born, the cameras come out almost immediately. When your baby is not healthy, there are so many other things on your mind. Before you know it, your baby may be 2 weeks old and you don't have a single decent picture of those early days. Even with cell phone cameras the low light conditions in the NICU can make it difficult to snap a good photo. I started thinking about what an amazing blessing it would be to have something from those days to look back on for years to come. In the most tragic circumstances, photos of the loved one lost help us heal. That is where the idea for Evan’s Project began. We’ve been blessed with wonderful photographers have agreed to volunteer their time and talents to help out. On special occasions and at parents request, a photographer is available to take pictures for the families with a baby in the NICU at NO CHARGE. The family receives 6-10 images at no charge.

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic changed our world in many ways. For Evan's Project, it stopped us from being able to continue the work we were doing. Non-essential personnel in the NICU became a risk. I hoped that would be a temporary change, but it was not as temporary as hoped. It is with sadness that I announce we have officially shut down Evan's Project. It has been our great joy to provide our Evan's Project families with irreplaceable memories of their infants' earliest days. I hope that someday we will be able to reboot and continue our mission. Until then, I want to thank you for trusting us to be a part of your families' stories.

Our annual St. NICU (aka Santa) visit has long been my favorite day of the year. I miss not being able to es**rt Santa to see the babies. Thursey Catlett crochets beautiful Santa hats and bo**ies for us to hand out during St NICU. Although we couldn't go this year, we were able to surprise Thursey for her birthday by sending one of the hat and bo**ie sets she made 2 years ago to her new great-grandbaby. Welcome to the world little one!

To the parents still waiting for photos.... I'm working on those as soon as possible! My computer went down (all photos are backed up so no worries on that) and my new one has been on back order for a couple of months. I got another notice today that the new one has been delayed due to a parts shortage. As soon as it arrives, I'll add the software and finish uploading the photos for those that are waiting. My apologies for the delay!

While we are unable to go take new photos of our NICU sweeties, we would still like to bring some hope to our NICU families. Please share photos with us of your NICU graduate and how they've grown!!

In the middle of building galleries my power went out and still not back 40 minutes later. 😭

For infection control purposes, we are suspending all Evan's Project photoshoots until further notice. We will coordinate with the hospitals that we currently serve to determine the best time for us to resume. The health of these precious babies is our primary concern.

Today is National Trisomy 13 Awareness Day. It is also the 11th anniversary of the day that Evan was diagnosed. Please say a prayer for the families affected by Trisomy 13 today.

Happy birthday, sweet Evan. You are so loved and so missed.

So very tiny! Santa was still able to spend a little time learning what he wants this Christmas.
