UAFS is planning a place where students and healthcare professionals can practice a difficult delivery before there’s a real patient on the table.

The university’s planned Center for Maternal and Infant Healthcare is moving another step closer.

UAFS says it is beginning the process of selecting the professionals who will design the center, with $15 million in federal funding already behind the project.

The plans include high-fidelity simulation labs where students and working clinicians could practice everything from routine care to emergencies like postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation and pediatric crises.

And the center would not only be for healthcare training.

UAFS also plans to let expectant parents use part of the simulation environment to see what labor, delivery and postpartum procedures can look like before they encounter them in a hospital.

The maternal and infant center is planned as the first phase of a larger Center for Health Innovation at UAFS.

Arvest Bank also added another $50,000 to the project this month.

This week is National Tutor Appreciation Week. ACHE/ARCOM provides our medical students access to tutors free of charge on a weekly basis multiples times per week across all four programs: DO, MSM, OT and PT. The tutors are 2nd year medical students themselves. Today we celebrated them with pizza, cookies, and Tutor Lapel pins as gifts for their service. Our Fall 2026 Tutors (as ALL of our past tutors!!) are a great group of caring individuals and we are grateful for their service. Here are some before/after photos of the celebration.
