Did you know substance abuse causes 67% more anxiety than getting help does?

A lot of young adults stay quiet because they think asking for help will be awkward, dramatic, or make people see them differently. But in reality, carrying stress, anxiety, and substance use alone usually makes things feel heavier over time.

You don’t have to have everything figured out at 18, 19, or 20. Life changes fast during these years, and it’s okay to need support while navigating it.

Talking to someone, asking questions, or reaching out for help is a sign of strength — not weakness. The earlier you take care of your mental health, the easier it is to build healthy habits for your future.

When it comes to drinking and smoking, peer pressure can be tough.

But not as tough as you may think.

Data shows that most young people aged 18-20 feel confident in their ability to say no to drugs and alcohol. Studies consistently find that refusal confidence is higher than people assume, and peer pressure is often overstated.

In fact, more than 70% of young adults in Kansas feel confident saying no to drugs and alcohol.

Saying no isn’t rare … it’s normal. Let’s start talking about that more.
