Parents, Players and Coaches,

10 years ago, I told a group of kids that I would be bringing a youth tackle football league to Fort Scott and I did just that. Since that time, our league has seen some very good players come and go, we’ve seen great success on and off the field of play, and we’ve given an opportunity when there was not an opportunity and I’m very proud of that. Creating this league was never easy, and at times a headache, but it’s been worth every dollar and every second to see our community and our kids be able to play under the name Fort Scott Tigers! With that said, I’ve been told that a new group of parents will begin their own league in Fort Scott this Fall. It was never my intention to run the league forever, but they did not reach out to me, instead have decided to create a all new league. My goal was that Fort Scott would have a tackle football program and with this interest from a new group of parents, I have decided to keep any confusion at a minimum and to help them during the process of building their program- Fort Scott is not big enough for 2 leagues- I will be ending this league. I’m not sure the details of their new league, but I want to wish them the best and hope they have the same success that we’ve had over the years! Look for the new Youth Tackle Football league coming to Fort Scott this Fall!

I will make sure to still be available if anything happens and this new league is not formed- we will have tackle football in our community one way or another, but until then- I ask that you do all you can to help see this new league start up and be successful as we have been.

Players then and now- let me leave you with this:
Dear Lord, the battles we go through in life,
We ask for a chance that’s fair
A chance to equal our stride
A chance to do or dare

If we should win, let it be by the code
Faith and Honor held high

If we should lose, we’ll stand by the road, and cheer as the winners go by
Day by Day, we’ll get better and better
Till we can’t be beat- WON’T BE BEAT!

Thank you to all the families, coaches, and parents that helped us along the way. I like to say to all of you, it’s been my pleasure to share this time with you and your athletes. We’ll spend the bulk of our lives learning- whether in school, on a field, at a our job, or doing whatever makes us happy. We will learn countless things that we may never use in life, but we are never taught to love what we have, we just have to hope that we do because the grass is never greener on the other side. We are never taught to make the moments last, or how to live in the moment, we just watch as they pass us by. But one of the most unfair things in life, is that we are never taught how to say Goodbye! We have to just hope we do our best in the end. I would just like to say- Thank you- it’s been one heck of a ride and one that I would do over again in heartbeat!

I’ve been getting questions about turning in gear and the year end banquet. We are looking at next week. It’s supposed to get back up into the high 60s to low 70s, since we’re planning an outdoor event that week makes the most sense.

It is a family style pot luck dinner:

The league supplies the main course and refreshments.

6th grade parents bring a side

5th grade bring dessert

More details will be announced later this week.

I’m getting messages asking if Fort Scott Youth Football is over in Fort Scott.

No, Fort Scott Youth Football is here to stay. Normally, Youth League coaches come and go every couple of years, we were very fortunate to have been able to keep our coaches for much longer. Stewart coached a couple of years while he didn’t have a player, and then when his youngest came out to play, we were able to get Matt to stay after his boys had aged out of the program. Now, both of them are ready to watch their boys play in middle school and high school. So, they are turning it over to a new set of Coaches.

Mike Miles who has been with the program the last 4 years will be returning next year and we will look at adding to the coaching roster as well.

There will be some changes, but we are going to stay committed to building not winning. Yes, we have been very successful, but our success is measured by how these kids play long term- not just in our league. Under Stewart and Matt, we have seen some amazing players. Some of them are All League players, Conference players, and I’m sure this year we’re going to see a few All-State High School players come from our program. That is the Tradition that will continue.

Last Night didn’t just feel like the end of the season it felt like the end of an era.

Both Head Coach Stewart Gulager(8 years) and OC Matt Harris(7 years) have decided to “retire” from our league. Stewart has been with the program since the beginning and Matt started just a year later. Under these two we were very successful, playing in 6 of the 8 Championship games during their tenure. We’ve seen numerous player go on to excel at higher levels, including middle school and high school. The first players Coach Gulager coached are Seniors in high school this year.

These two have done amazing things for our program and will be deeply missed. Help us say Thank You and show are appreciation to the two of them for all they’ve done! Thank You Stewart Gulager and Matt Harris for everything!

We have a player and his family looking for a ride to the game tonight. Would anyone have room for him and his family?

If you do please message me a contact number to share with them.

Thank you.

It has been brought to my attention, this morning, that we may have a number of our players in quarantine from the Covid-19 virus close proximity rules. We need to make sure we will have enough to play today. Please send us a message and let us know that your athlete/s are still available for today’s game.

Thank you
