I am very proud of my scouts right now. at tonight’s meeting, we did our Service to the Community badge requirement. We had to do 4 things to complete this badge. 1) have a election, 2), listen to an elected official about their roles and duties, 3) learn about the 3 branches of government, 4) present and vote on a community service project we will do as a pack.
Commissioner VanHoecke talked to the scouts about his position as a city commissioner. Then, the scouts broke into 2 groups to work on community service projects. They had to have a plan about what we would do, how we would fund it, and have a plan to carry it out. Then, each side presented their “bill”, and we voted. We also had 1 more plan that just the 1st graders had started at the last meeting. All three were great plans, so a motion was made to do them all.
We’re going to raise money to buy selling hot cocoa and coffee at the Christmas parade. The funds will be used to buy Trenton some warm clothes, a tent, and a good sleeping bag. We will also adopt 2 kids for Christmas, and we’re going to do a sock drive to get residents at the nursing homes new socks.
All projects were thought of by the scouts, and I am so proud of them. They take their scout oath seriously in that they help other people.
I will post details about our projects in another post, so be sure to follow our page to see how you can help these kids do good in their community.u
