Please note that the Canal Spraying Advisory
signs have been taken down.

The canal system was sprayed last Sunday/Monday. It should now be safe to draw water for lawn irrigation. Additionally, fishing and water activities should be safe. The signage is always posted out of an abundance of caution.

For those asking what chemicals are used to treat the pond w**d infestation …
Basically a “Cocktail” including:
~ Clipper
~ Unison
~ Aqua Shot
~ New Balance Surfactant

The surfactant draws the chemicals down to the base of the plants. You will see a browning of the w**d and eventually the dead plants may float to the surface … There will be clumps of the dead w**d floating in the canal from time to time … most of the time the clumps eventually migrate through the system and out into the main channel of the Missouri. Oftentimes, the w**d just dies in place and sinks to the bottom.

Please give the chemicals time to work. If there is a need to re-spray problem areas, we will address those issues as needed.

Thank you,

Stanley County Law Enforcement
Advisory

The alleged perpetrators were spotted by security cameras in Marions' Garden on Monday, March 23, 2026 ...

"This morning we took several reports of persons going into closed garages and homes stealing items. Most of the items were in the unlocked parked cars in their unlocked garages. In a couple of instances items were taken from inside the homes. Entry again was from an unlocked door.

It appears this conduct also happened over in Pierre as well. This would have happened around midnight into the early morning hours.

Local, State and Federal law enforcement are working together on these cases.

If you have any information you can call the Stanley County Sheriff's Office, the Pierre Police Department or the DCI.

It would be a good idea to make sure your doors are locked to your garages and homes, as well as locking up your vehicles even if they are in you closed garage.

Make a plan to keep your property and family safe.

If you are alerted to a problem at night, call Dispatch on 911.
