Main Street Fort Pierce Main Street Fort Pierce is a comprehensive revitalization program designed to encourage economic development in conjunction with historic preservation.

Established in 1988, Main Street Fort Pierce, Inc. (a not-for-profit corporation) is a local, public-private partnership funded by memberships, fund-raising projects and city government. Main Street Fort Pierce, Inc. brings development, activities, recognition and an improved economy to the historic downtown area through a variety of methods. The organization coordinates downtown improvements, creates a positive image to attract customers and investors, rekindles community pride, enhances the visual quality of the downtown environment, and attracts strategic additions to the economic mix. Main Street Fort Pierce’s track record includes the successful Friday Fest, Sandy Shoes Festival and Sights and Sounds on Second, along with other special events.

Step back into Cantown during the 1870s–1920 and discover a time of steamboats, growing businesses, lawmen, and outlaws.

Hear about the notorious Ashley Gang and the story of Sheriff Carlton and a downtown shootout that brought plenty of excitement to early Fort Pierce.

You’ll also hear stories of P.P. Cobb, Steamboat Captain Bravo, the Raulerson Building, the Fee Family, Fort Pierce Bank, and more.

🐙And when the tour ends, keep the evening going at Harbor Cocktail Lounge!

Step back in time with Main Street Fort Pierce for the **WPA, WWII & The Artists that Captured Florida Ghost Walk** on **Saturday, October 17th!**

Join us at the historic Arcade Building in downtown Fort Pierce for a fascinating journey through our community’s rich history, brought to life by dedicated volunteers portraying the people, stories, and events that helped shape our city.

🔹 Local perspectives on life during WWII
🔹 WWII Naval Special Warfare Operators — discover the story of the Naval Combat Demolition Units and the training base established in Fort Pierce in 1943
🔹 Alfred Hair — one of the artists behind Florida’s celebrated Highwaymen art movement
🔹 Mary Ann Carroll — the remarkable female Highwaymen artist

The **Original Historic Ghost Walk was created by Main Street Fort Pierce**, and our volunteer storytellers make local history come alive in a unique and memorable way!

Travel through the years 1935–1960s and hear stories of A.E. “Beanie” Backus, Zora Neale Hurston, The Highwaymen, WWII in Fort Pierce, the historic Post Office, the Arcade Building, and more.
