ARMADILLO FUN FACTS:-
Armadillos are unique, armored mammals—whose name means "little armored one" in Spanish.
Only three-banded armadillos can roll into a perfect ball, while nine-banded armadillos often give birth to identical quadruplets.
Identical Quadruplets: Nine-banded armadillos always give birth to four identical young of the same s*x.
Underwater Walkers: They can hold their breath for up to 6 minutes, allowing them to walk across the bottom of small streams.
Natural Buoyancy: To cross larger bodies of water, they can inflate their intestines by swallowing air to increase buoyancy.
The "Ball" Myth: Only the three-banded armadillo can roll into a tight, secure ball for protection; other species are too stiff.
High Jumpers: When startled, nine-banded armadillos can jump straight up in the air, sometimes up to 3–4 feet.
Range Expansion: While native to South/Central America, they are rapidly expanding their range and can be found as far north as Indiana.
Varied Sizes: The pink fairy armadillo is only 4–6 inches long, while the giant armadillo can reach 5 feet and weigh up to 130+ pounds.
Super Senses: They have very poor eyesight but an excellent sense of smell to locate insects, larvae, and roots.
They Have Hair: Despite their armor, armadillos are mammals and have hair on their undersides.
Name Game: In some areas, they are nicknamed "Hoover Hogs".
