Today at 1436, Fischer Rescue received a call requesting assistance at Little River Canyon National Preserve for a 14-year-old male who had fallen from the top of the main falls. The subject received medical attention at the bottom of the falls before being loaded into a rescue basket and hoisted to the top of the falls, where a medical helicopter was waiting for transport.

We would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their quick actions, teamwork, and professionalism during this rescue operation.

Please keep the patient, family, and responders in your thoughts and prayers.

Saturday, March 21, was a full day starting at 7:15 am assisting with a search in DeKalb County. The search wrapped up around 11:00 am.

At 11:40 am, we got paged out to a possible drowning in Little River Canyon National Preserve. From a witness, the patient was under the water least 3 to 4 min. CPR was performed for 3 to 5 mins. At that time, the patient did regain consciousness.

By the time we reached the patient, he was alert and talking. Patient was extricated with the assistance of GSP Avation. Due to the location of call, the aviation unit expedited the process of getting the patient out of the bottom. Patient was extricated around 3:00 pm. The rescuers walked out after patient was extricated and got back to top around 4:15 pm. After clean up, it was 6:15 pm when call was terminated.

Thanks to all that help and assisted in the rescue efforts for the kayaker.

Thanks to the other kayakers that jumped into action to save a life.

Fischer Rescue Squad had a great weekend participating in a multi-agency Search and Rescue training exercise at Bear Creek Education Center hosted by Franklin County EMA.

Teams from across Alabama came together to train in several disciplines including search and rescue operations, rope rescue, water rescue, boat operations, drone/aerial search, UTV operations, K-9 search, and medical scenarios. It was a great opportunity to work in a realistic training environment alongside some of the best responders in the state.

No training is better than hands-on, real-world style scenarios. We had the opportunity to both learn and teach while working with other agencies, strengthening the partnerships that are so important when real calls happen.

Thanks to everyone who helped organize the training and to all the agencies that participated. Training together helps ensure we’re ready when it matters most.
