I was so honored to attend “Rally of Hope“ with several hundred friends yesterday at Mt Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church. We gathered as we celebrated the 63rd anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.

The program was emceed by Uncommon Friends Emeritus Board member, Kellie Burns. Kellie, as always, did an amazing job as we attended this highly emotional, education, inclusive and inspiring event. The music was absolutely fantastic, the speakers were so inspiring, and the very feeling of love and unity -such a strong feeling within the room. It was so nice seeing people of all walks of life, all ethnicities, different religions, different political parties, all socioeconomic levels, etc. come together AS ONE.

As I sat there identifying friends, and colleagues coming from all walks of life, at this open nonpartisan gathering, I realized, in the end, we are all “Uncommon Friends”.

I especially enjoyed seeing and sharing this moment with friends: Mayor Kevin Anderson, Councilperson Diana Giraldo, UFF Board member and Lee County School Board member, Debbie Jordan, Rabbi Nicole Luna, Andi Horowitz, Cornell Bunting, Shavon Chester, Todd and Stephanie Blanton, Jim and Karen Nathan, Sunny Lubner, Sonya McCarter, Jackie and Arden McCurdy, and my dear friend and colleague, Julian Ramirez, Executive Director of Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida, Inc. (just to name a few).

Remember, EVERYONE- VOTE!!! May we never fail to remember that many have given everything to ensure that we have that right.

What an amazing, and delicious evening we enjoyed last night. If you know SWFlorida cuisine at all, then you know Harold's Restaurant. Harold and his incredible staff were absolute perfection, as they so generously hosted the 2nd Annual Uncommon Scholarship Wine Dinner at Harold’s.

The food, friendship and support made for a memorable experience for all who attended. We appreciate everyone that joined us, and appreciate your generosity and support.

If you were not able to attend and would still like to donate to our scholarship program, please go to our website at -
www.uncommonfriends.org to donate or to learn more about the programs that we offer.

Our scholarship recipients from this year, mother AND daughter, Amy Jocque & Trinity Jocque spoke so eloquently and straight from the heart of how the scholarships they received have made such an impact on their lives and given them opportunity.

Again, thank you to all of our supporters! We could not do what we do without YOU!

THANK YOU HAROLD!!!

Last Thursday we wrapped up our six weeks of our, UFF “Summer Life Enrichment Camp”.

We were so fortunate to have UFF vice president, Kristalyn Loson Atwood, and her husband , Scott Atwood, from Henderson Franklin Starnes & Holt P A, join us and present, “Advocating for Yourself, Using Lawyer Skills to Get What You Want”. Kristalyn and Scott, drew from their legal and mediation profession to teach practical networking, self advocacy, mediation skills, and included hands-on role-play scenarios. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities. They learned wonderful ways to walk into a room, how to greet people properly, how to start those conversations when you don’t know someone, the art of small talk, and setting their personal goals for what it is they want to obtain. It was truly an amazing presentation.

One of the favorite activities we do each week, is have beautiful, healthy, and fun lunches that are made by our community partners at Community Cooperative. We were so appreciative to Marquis Wealth Management Group, and UFF board member, Trevor Whitley for sponsoring the lunches.

After lunch this week we had I final recognition time for each student. We gifted them with a backpack, a lapel pen, a necklace and a letter of completion.

We were also very happy to have board member, Alexandra Bremner join us. “Alex” is always so helpful, and brings such a kind spirit and a loving presence. It has been wonderful having different board members join us for different sessions.

As we wrap up the 2026 summer camp, we want to thank everyone who has made this such a memorable and exciting summer activity. Without the support we receive from our sponsors and partners, this would not be possible. We are so grateful. This has turned into an amazing way that we can teach our curriculum in a different way to those in our community, while incorporating vital life skills.
