What a wonderful evening at Florida Gulf Coast University! Uncommon Friends Executive Director Marc Collins, joined by an enthusiastic group of supporters and board members, attended a captivating presentation by Dr. Eric Dent, the Uncommon Friends Endowed Chair of Ethics at FGCU, celebrating his latest book, Unity.

Dr. Dent delivered an incredible, thought-provoking, and informative talk that sparked fresh perspectives and meaningful conversation. What a terrific opportunity to come together, learn, and celebrate the power of ideas that unite us!

👏 A big thank-you, and congratulations to Dr. Dent for sharing his knowledge, passion, and inspiration. It was truly an evening well spent!

We are so grateful to Florida Weekly - Fort Myers and UFF Advisory Committee member, Stephanie Davis for covering our recent scholarship luncheon. The luncheon was sponsored by our community partners, The Edison Awards. We are so grateful for the relationship we have formed with Frank Bonafillia and the wonderful people at The Edison Awards.

Our scholarship recipient speaker was Maggie Gray. Maggie is an exceptional young lady that was the recipient of the Lori Carroll-Collins Scholarship. The Uncommon Friends Foundation is honored to match funding provided by LARC, Inc. We love our scholarship match program that we offer to other nonprofit organizations. 

Our guest speaker for the luncheon was UFF Emeritus Board member, as well as a Edison Award Board member, Sandra Stilwell- Younquist. Sandy was so motivational and challenging to those in attendance. She shared stories of her relationship with the Newtons, as well as she inspired us all to strive to be better, as we work together in support of making a better future for those around us.

💛 CELEBRATING OUR PEOPLE. CELEBRATING OUR COMMUNITY.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Uncommon Friends Foundation is especially proud to celebrate the Hispanic and Latino members of our team, who make up nearly 90% of our staff.

Their talent, dedication, perspectives and commitment to service strengthen our organization every day. They help us carry forward our mission of encouraging character, ethics, education and opportunity—and they reflect the vibrant Southwest Florida community we are so proud to serve.

This month, we celebrate the rich cultures and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community, while also recognizing something we are fortunate to experience every day: the people behind our mission are what make our impact possible.

A huge “Thank you” to Stephanie Davis and Florida Weekly - Fort Myers for covering our latest scholarship dinner. It was an unbelievable evening of inspiration and a delicious meal provided by Brian Roland and his team from Crave Culinaire By Chef Brian Roland. 

The evening was so special as we listened to 2026 scholarship recipient, Ziya Chambers share how her life has been impacted by receiving one of our nontraditional scholarships. Ziya is an amazing young lady who is certainly going to do great things.

If you would like to attend our last scholarship luncheon of the season, we still have a few tickets available. Please go to www.uncommonfriends.org and you will find a link to purchase tickets for our luncheon on September 10, 11:30 AM until 1 PM. Our special speakers will be scholarship recipient, Maggie Gray, and motivational speaker, Sandy Stilwell-Youngquist.
