Captains For Clean Water

Captains For Clean Water Captains For Clean Water is a 501(c)3 grassroots nonprofit on a mission to restore and protect Florida's water resources for the use and enjoyment of all.

Founded by fishing guides, Captains For Clean Water has united the outdoor industry, business community, and concerned citizens at the frontlines of the fight for clean water — the lifeblood of Florida’s economy and $85.9 billion tourism industry. CFCW works to advance science-based solutions and federal and state policy measures that directly improve water quality. Through awareness, education, a

nd advocacy, CFCW inspires public engagement to keep water quality a priority with elected officials. Together with their partners and supporters, CFCW has advanced more progress on Everglades restoration in the past few years than seen in decades. By shining a spotlight on key issues, they've mobilized thousands of people to take action at critical times and provided a platform to hold elected officials accountable. As a result, the level of engagement on water quality issues in Florida is higher than ever before.

Photos like this are a big part of what keeps this fight moving.

They remind people what’s worth protecting, deepen our connection to the waters and wild places we cherish, and help tell the story of why this fight matters.

One compelling photo can spark conversation, inspire people to act, and bring more voices into the movement. That’s the power photographers like Cavin Brothers bring to the table.

"We’ve been able to raise our children in mostly the same ways that we grew up, in the water. The water is the reason that we all live here. I can’t think of a better place for a kid to gain confidence in the outdoors and in life in general than the beaches and bays along the gulf coast of Florida.

Fighting to keep these places for those reasons and not monetary gains, growth or whatever else has just become natural for those of us who call this home and have that deeper connection to it." - Cavin

Thanks Cavin, for using your skills to drive progress in this fight 💪

Each year, FWC contractors spray over 450,000 pounds of chemical herbicides on aquatic vegetation to manage invasive species.

But these chemical herbicides could be causing lasting damage to our key habitat, and pose risks to human health. Check out our latest post to learn more, and tell us in the comments: what concerns does this raise for you?

Imagery like this drives our fight forward.

It helps people see what’s at stake, connect more deeply to the places we love, and understand why protecting our water matters. A single powerful image can raise awareness, inspire action, and strengthen a movement for change.

And photographers like do exactly that.

"My photographs reflect my decades-long immersion in the Everglades as an ecological scientist and my attempts to gain a deep understanding of its wildlife, ecological interactions, and landscape processes. I create images for a multitude of reasons:

1) for science, to preserve in images the current natural and ecological history of the region and lay witness to changes as a consequence of hydrological restoration and climate change.

2) to reveal the sentience and intelligence of animals and foster a deeper empathy and respect for our fellow earthlings

3) to reveal the stunning beauty, abundance and diversity of the Everglades wilderness with the hope of fascinating the viewer, of provoking thoughts and discussions, and ultimately to promote a greater appreciation of the critical need to restore this landscape." -Mark
