Measles cases are rising again in Collier County after several weeks without new cases.

Three new cases have been reported since Aug. 15, bringing Collier County’s total to 96 and Florida’s statewide total to 144. Lee County’s total remains at three cases.

About 89% of Collier County public school kindergartners are vaccinated, below the 95% rate considered necessary for herd immunity against measles.

The MMR vaccine is considered safe and effective and is available at no cost to Collier County residents at locations in Naples and Immokalee.
