This page is being used to let people know about sandbar events popping up in the area. Many people are hosting these types of events now, which is fantastic! :)
The Sandbar Extravaganzas were created to:
1. increase tourism off-season, and therefore revenue for Lee County Businesses off-season, to help them level off their revenue cycle
2. show off how amazing this area is to businesses consi
dering relocating to the area
3. provide residents and future residents with a way to truly enjoy the water - the best part of Lee County. They were created by Dan Sinclair (www.facebook.com/danforsupervisor/ and www.DanForSupervisor.com). Scott handles a lot of the logistics for the event, and has been an amazing help. Ozzie suggested Scott coming on board. Good job, Ozzie. Ozzie Morrobel has also been a big part in helping these events take off. The idea for the events came to Dan from the sandbar events at Islamorada in the Florida Keys. At one of Ozzie's Slow Boat Poker Runs, Dan got the idea to throw the sandbar parties. These are events put on by Floridians, for the community. We need something for ourselves in the off-season months, to enjoy our area. We bring everyone together for fun, networking, and a general release from the work week. These events were started in May of 2014. They started at 200 people and grew to over 3,500 people. We are expecting around 10,000 people at the 2015 event. www.YPEvent29.com
The Sunday of Labor Day Weekend 2015 is the next event - Sunday, September 6, 2015 from noon to 5pm. The turnout ratio has been about 4,100 people at the event for every 1,000 that RSVP's. So, with 2,400 RSVP'd, so far, we should have about 10,000 people. The event costs us about $30,000 to put on. We need donations to make this happen.
