The Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers is proud to announce that we have been awarded First Place in the Florida District of Kiwanis Signature Project Competition for our longtime support of the Thomas A. Edison Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Since 1958, the Science Fair has inspired thousands of students from Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, and Collier counties to explore science, engineering, and innovation. Many participants have advanced to state and international competitions and earned scholarships that helped shape their futures.

This prestigious recognition, selected from among more than 100 Kiwanis clubs across Florida, celebrates the dedication of our volunteers, educators, judges, sponsors, and community partners who make this program possible. Together, we are fulfilling the Kiwanis mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time.

This week we will hear from a wildlife biologist with the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. Mike Mills has been with SCCF since 2019. His specialty is turtles, beginning with Sea Turtles in Costa Rica when he was with the St. Louis Zoo. He is now specializing in the Florida Box Turtle. Mike oversees the wildlife field work in Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Wildlife and Habitat Management Department.

They track various kinds of animals – including bats, rice rats, fish, and other native creatures, some of which will be presented in his program.

This program gives us an opportunity to learn more about the creatures we co-habitate with.

See you Tomorrow!
