On September 20, 2017 Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 hurricane ripped through the tiny island of Vieques Puerto Rico at speeds of 160 MPH leaving catastrophic devastation in its path. Over 400 homes were completely lost and more than double that were destroyed. Vieques Puerto Rico, a US territory is situated only 7 miles off the Eastern coast of the mainland of Puerto Rico, however since Maria it m

ay as well be a million miles away. There are just over 9,000 residents who call this beautiful island home. People on Vieques were already struggling prior to the storm and now their homes and livelihood have been lost. Many residents are wondering how they are going to survive on the island. Many are leaving the island, leaving behind the only life they have ever known. Tourism is the primary source of revenue for the island. Unfortunately, with the sustained damage on our island many vacationers are cancelling their vacation plans. For several years my husband and I have spent the winters and part of the spring on Vieques. We have fallen in love with the beauty of the island but even more so the people of the island. They love and support their families and they look out for their neighbors. They take care of each other. At night you can go to the plaza in the center of town and there you will find families sitting on the park benches chatting with other family members neighbors and friends as their children ride their bikes, skate board and play. Often times when you drive by their homes you will see 3 generations of family members sitting on the porch talking and laughing. And the teenagers aren’t sitting in the house watching tv or on their computers. No, they are riding their horses around the island, playing basketball and baseball at the municipal courts and fields. If one of them befriends you, you will have a friend for life. They will treat you as if you are part of their family. The night before the hurricane, I felt utterly helpless as I watched the weather reports. Hurricane Maria was churning through the leeward islands with reports of being the strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in 89 years. The last report before I headed to bed was that Hurricane Maria was now sustaining winds of over 185 mph with gusts beyond 225 miles per hour. They were saying that it was a category 6 hurricane for any of you weather buffs out there you know there is no such thing as a category 6 hurricane. My heart physically hurt. All I could do was pray. The next morning, I anxiously awoke to see how the island made out. To make sure my friend were ok. But nothing there were barely any reports. All I knew was that Hurricane Maria was bad but all communication had been lost during the storm.
2 Days later
I was at the Gym on the treadmill and I looked up at the 10 tv screens that lined the wall in front of me and all I saw was the devastation that hurricane Maria left behind, on every screen storm waters rushing through towns and homes 3 stories high. Homes completely flattened homes without roofs or walls. People walking the streets in absolute shock it looked like a bomb went off. I could feel the tears running down my face. My heart was broken. At that very minute I began to pray Dear Lord What can I do to help and at that very moment God spoke to me with 25 years of real estate, new construction and real estate development experience I was going to help rebuild Vieques. I went home and started working on my plan. I called friends in the industry and wrote out details and plans and that was when Hope Builders was born. Hope Builders goal is to construct and donate 100 sustainable concrete 2-bedroom, 1 bath homes approximately 600 sq. for the residents of Vieques Puerto Rico who lost their homes to hurricane Maria. We will be relying on the gifts of construction professionals, lay persons and people like you for support. In doing this we will also be stimulating the economy there because although we will be using volunteer workers we will also be hiring locals to work. We will need to rent homes for our volunteers to stay at which will also put the house cleaners back in business and we will be hiring locals to cook the meals for our volunteers, we will need transportation and we will be using the restaurants and stores. Hope Builders is working in partnership with Concerned Residents for Improvement or COREFI a Vieques nonprofit that supplies food and medical supplies to the islands elderly, young families and the most in need. It is a perfect partnership. We will be serving the same people that COREFI serves. If you would like to join us, on our mission, please go to the volunteer page and send a us a message. Someone will contact you right away. Thank you, for your interest in Hope Builders. Please check back often to see updates that we will make as we carry out our mission. God Bless,

A day in history never to be forgotten. 🕊️

The Christmas Truce of 1914 stands as a poignant testament to the enduring spirit of humanity even amidst the darkest times.

On a cold Christmas Eve during World War I, something extraordinary happened. In the mud-soaked trenches along the Western Front, soldiers from both sides, weary and homesick, hesitated as strains of familiar Christmas carols floated across the no-man's land. In an impromptu act of peace, German, British, and French troops cautiously emerged from their trenches, their hands not wielding weapons, but extending in friendship.

They shared stories, family photos, and small gifts like chocolate and ci******es.

They laughed, sang, and even played football together, creating a bubble of camaraderie and forgetting, for a moment, the grim reality of war.

The truce was brief and not universal, but for those who experienced it, it offered a glimpse of hope and humanity, a powerful reminder that even in times of conflict, there is more that unites us than divides us.

Merry Christmas!🎄
Happy Holidays!🎁

Long Post. Please Help!!!

As many of you know I founded Hope BuildersHope Builders back in 2017 in the wake of Hurricane Maria after it caused catastrophic damage to Puerto Rico.

Over the past 5 years we worked there rebuilding and repairing over 270 homes, helping thousads of people get back into safe and sanitary homes.

We helped hundreds of families with their FEMA appeals so they could get the help they needed.

We directly helped the municipality by helping repair the buildings and build new bathrooms in the new emergency management center OMME.

We donated the materials and helped build an isolation tent at the make shift hospital during the COVID 19 pandemic.

We built a shelter and tool shed and work room for the Vieques Police department.

We partnered with hundreds of other non-profit organizations working to rebuild Puerto Rico.

More than 120,000 hours volunteering and working rebuilding and helping our community in Vieques.

There are so many other things that we were able to accomplish by the grace of God and the help of organizations and volunteers. You can see more of what we did on our website www.hopebuildersinc.org

This past winter we set up operations in Fort Myers Beach Florida after the 3 tornados touched down destroying numerous mobile homes where the elderly were living.

Within minutes of the touch downs I was in these neighborhoods removing people from their homes helping them into shelters.

I went to area hardware stores and local Home Depots to get materials to donate to the people.

I went door to door for months giving out supplies, helping people muck and gut their homes and tarping roofs.

I had some volunteers that I was extremely grateful for, but unfortunately not a steady stream. I'll be honest it was hard. After Covid 19 our funding was pretty much obsolete. So I personally funded the efforts and when I could not do that anymore. I stopped. It was a difficult choice I had to make and one that has not sat well with me since.

Last week, one weeek ago today, Hurricane Fiona made landfall on the main island of Puerto Rico. Destroying homes, roads and bridges. Thousands of people are still without power and water.

I was contacted by FEMA representatives and several other organizations that we partnered with during Maria asking if we could help.

Since Thursday of last week we have coordinated efforts with several NGO's on the main island and will be donating materials to help other organizations rebuild homes.

Today Hurricane Ian is barreling toward Florida just shy of a Category 5 hurricane. Expected to make a direct hit between Naples and Tampa Bay any time now. As some of you may know my home is in Fort Myers. Many of my family and friends will be directly impacted by this storm.

I am currently reaching out to ask for help. I will be coordinating efforts to stage for relief supplies in Massachusetts. I will be asking for donations of certain supplies and will post the items of need here and on our Hope BuildersHope Builders page.

I will be seeking volunteers willing to head to Florida to aid in the distribution of supplies and clean up and then possibly to help rebuild. Please message me directly if you are interested in helping in anyway.

I am also seeking monetary donations, that will go directly to fund the efforts in Florida and Puerto Rico. No amount is too big nor too small. You can donate here, on our website www.hopebuildersinc.org/donate or directly through me via cash or checks written to Hope BuildersHope Builders. Hope BuildersHope Builders is a 503C public charity. Please check with your tax professional with any questions in regard to deductions.

I will continue to update you as things progress.
Please join me in praying for the safety of my family, friends and everyone else in the path of Hurricane Ian. I appreciate any and all of the support that I continue to get. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

One week ago Hurrican Fiona a Category 1 Hurricane made landfall on the main island of Puerto Rico destroying homes, roads and bridges. Hope Builders is partnering with organizations with boots on the ground with assesments and clean up. We are currently coordinating a huge donation of materials to bring to the most effected areas. We will continue to help our brothers and sisters on the main island.

In addition to this we are currently preparing to stage relief supplies in Massachusetts in preparation for Hurricane Ian a Category 4 hurricane that is expected to strike South Western Florida between Naples and Tampa Bay begining at 8AM this morning.

Any support you can give to help out the families that are most impacted in these two missions will be greatly appreciated. You can donate here or at www.hopebuildersinc.org/donate all donations will go directly to support the relief efforts and if you are interested in volunteering please message us directly.

The call was received. Hope Buildershas been asked to report back to Puerto Rico to help the storm victims. This time we have been asked to serve on the main island. Although our focus will be on the main island our community of Vieques will be served for the minor needs that have been reported so far.

Almost 5 years almost to the date of Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Fiona wreaks havoc on the main island of Puerto Rico causing severe flooding. The Puerto Rico people need your help.

Right now there are still so many unanswered questions because the flood waters are preventing assesments from being made but please know we will keep you updated.

We are seeking volunteers to help us with our efforts. At this current time we are hoping to utilize people already on the island but we will not turn off island folks away. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer, please send an email to [email protected]

Also if you would like to donate please donate here or at our website www.hopebuidersinc.org/donate.
All donations will go directly to helping the victims.

Thank you for your continued support.

Today our Founder Vickie Sunshine Michaud spent the day assisting people in Fort Myers Florida that were impacted by 3 F2 Hurricanes. She assisted home owners during evacuation after the first tornado touched down and then after the weather cleard she worked on getting donation of supplies to assist the homeowners. She worked in 2 different 55 and over mobile home parks giving out contractor bags, gloves, rakes, chain saws, tarps, ropes, and water,

This effort was made possible by the generous donations of 3 local businesses and the generosity of individuals who support us. A huge shout out and thank you to Gavins Ace Hardware Fort Myers the store manager Johnathan was eager to help his community and the generosity of this small local business should not go unnoticed, we also received gerous donations from The Home Depot the forum Ft Myers and Tamiami trail Ft Myers. Thank you all.

We will continue to assist the people of Ft Myers by helping them remove items form their homes, navigate insurance claims and help others find donations to rebuild because sadly a large majority of the homes were not insured because mobile homes often times are hard to insure, Many of these victims are elderly and have lost everyting.

Thank you to all of you who so generously donated to help. God bless you all
