The Purple People Bridge, which was partially closed for repair work to fix damage on the Cincinnati side, is fully reopened five days ahead of schedule!

This bridge is an important connector between the cities of Newport and Cincinnati and the cost of permanently repairing the bridge was offset by contributions from many local organizations, including BE NKY and the Northern Kentucky Port Authority.

A different kind of economy is taking root in Northern Kentucky — one built on discovery rather than delivery. Life sciences employment in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties grew 161 percent over the past decade, and labor productivity in life sciences places it among the highest-value industries in the region.

The opening of LifeSciKY, a nonprofit life sciences incubator, in September 2025 gives early-stage life sciences companies access to more than $1 million in shared scientific equipment, private and shared lab facilities, technical expertise and a community of researchers and mentors.

Learn more about the emergence of this industry in NKY in an article by BE NKY Research Analyst Ashby Drummond:

Northern Kentucky's life sciences sector is booming, driving innovation, high wage jobs and economic growth through research, biotech startups and new investment.

Last week, BE NKY Growth Partnership was honored to be recognized by Adopt A Class with the Spark Award. In May 2025, BE NKY announced $100,000 in investment for Adopt A Class to support their mission of serving K-8 students in underserved communities through mentorship and relationship-building, exposing these students to companies and careers in the region.

BE NKY also formed our own Adopt A Class team and we have had so much fun this year volunteering in a second-grade classroom in Covington, and we look forward to mentoring more students this coming fall!

Lucy Roll recently completed her junior year at Northern Kentucky University. Majoring in economics with a minor in marketing and management, she was first drawn to the field by a high school microeconomics class. During her college career, she worked for the NKU Center for Economic Education and was involved with an emerging leaders club that connected students with business professionals from the local community.

BE NKY Growth Partnership understands that the decision to relocate a major operation is more than just a real estate transaction. It is a workforce, supply chain and long-term risk investment.

One of our newest articles walks business leaders through key questions related to hiring, productivity and operational resilience that they need to ask before making that big decision.

Read more here:

Relocating a major business unit isn’t just a real estate decision—it’s a supply chain decision, a workforce decision, and a risk decision. The best relocations don’t happen because a site looked good on paper. They happen because leadership pressure-tests the move against the realities that...

Princess Nworah recently graduated from Northern Kentucky University this past May, receiving a degree in economics, with a minor in math. Originally from Nigeria, she chose NKU for its strong research opportunities and low student-to-teacher ratio. Throughout her college career, she participated in economics club and student government while also serving as an ambassador for the NKU Haile College of Business.

Princess was one of three students who received funding this academic year from the James F. West, Jr. Economic Development Scholarship, named for the first president of the Northern Kentucky Tri-County Economic Development Corporation (now BE NKY Growth Partnership).
