This Giving Tuesday, we’re coming to you with open hands and honest hearts.❤️
As many of you know, our family has spent the last 3 years deeply focused on foster care and adoption, while also raising and supporting our four biological children who are heavily involved in sports and community. Because of that, The Gordon Owino Heart Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has quietly continued its mission behind the scenes: providing hope and support to children and families affected by congenital heart disease, the #1 birth defect in America.
But what many don’t see is the gravity of the needs, and the financial reality behind meeting them. The Gordon Owino Heart Foundation truly helps those most in need.
When families are faced with incredibly difficult cardiac diagnoses, their time in the hospital can be extremely lengthy. They are often away from home for weeks or months at a time, unable to work, and overwhelmed by unexpected expenses: meals, gas, lodging, and basic household bills that don’t pause just because life has.
Our foundation steps in to stand in the gap. We offer:
❤️ Gas cards ($1,000 every quarter)
❤️ Meal vouchers ($1,000 every quarter)
❤️ Assistance with rent, utilities, and household bills
❤️ Support for siblings and families during long hospital stays
❤️ And when a cure cannot be found… we help families with the heavy, heartbreaking costs of end-of-life arrangements.
We walk beside families when they need it most, lifting burdens no parent should have to carry alone.
But right now, we need help.
Each week, we are spending roughly $1,000 supporting heart families at Levine Children’s Hospital, MUSC, and families receiving hospice care through Hands of Hope. Fundraising has been incredibly challenging in these times, and the truth is, our resources are running low. We cannot continue this work without the support of our community.
