If you’ve been around the Baxter Close Y, chances are you’ve seen Arnold and Melanie bringing their energy, encouragement and passion for fitness to our community! Both Arnold and Melanie are personal trainers and group fitness instructors at the Y, and they love helping people of all ages feel stronger, more confident and capable. But one of their favorite things to coach? Youth Fast Feet!

They love working with young athletes and watching them grow—not just as runners, but as individuals. From learning proper running form to building stamina, endurance and confidence, Arnold and Melanie bring plenty of encouragement (and a little fun!) to every workout. Their favorite part? Seeing kids start to realize just how much they can accomplish when they keep showing up and pushing themselves.

And now, they’re ready for another great 8-week session of Youth Fast Feet!

📅 Starts September 8
⏰ Tuesdays & Thursdays | 5–6 PM
🏃 Ages 8–14
🎉 Finishing with a 5K!

Sometimes, the greatest impact we make isn’t measured in miles run, weights lifted, or goals checked off. It’s found in something much simpler: BELONGING.

Meet Weston - one our Y ladies most favorite members. His mom sent us the email below.

"For Weston, the Y has become a place where he feels at home. Through Strength & Conditioning, he has grown in confidence, strength, and independence—and along the way, he’s made new friends, reconnected with old ones, and built relationships with staff who know him, encourage him, and genuinely care about him. As his mom, one moment stands out in particular. When Weston no longer had his ABA support with him for class, Coach John simply said, “I’ve got this.” That confidence in Weston meant everything."

Today, Weston independently accesses the Y as part of his community—something his family once wasn’t sure would be possible. And maybe that’s the most powerful part of this story. The Y isn’t just a place Weston comes to work out. It’s a place where he is known. Where he is welcomed. Where people notice when he walks through the doors. Where he has his favorite “ladies” at the front desk and sometimes just wants to stop by to say hello.

Adair, thank you for sharing Weston’s story and for allowing us to be a small part of his journey. And to every Y staff member who has taken the time to laugh with him, encourage him, talk with him, and make him feel like he belongs—this is why what you do matters. We’re so grateful to be part of Weston’s village.

Strength is about so much more than how much you can lift. For kids and teens, strength and conditioning is a chance to feel more confident in their bodies, learn what they’re capable of, and build habits that can support them for years to come.

Through age-appropriate training, participants will learn how to move safely, build strength, improve balance and coordination, and understand the importance of taking care of their bodies. Along the way, they may discover that the confidence they gain in the gym carries over into sports, school, and everyday life.

Our goal isn’t just to help young people become stronger today—it’s to help them develop the knowledge and healthy habits they can carry with them for a lifetime.
Give your child the tools to feel strong, capable, and confident—both now and in the future. Our next session of Youth Strength and Conditioning begins 9/14. Register today!
