Blessings in a Bag, feeding hungry children in Fort Lupton Weekend nutritional food for hungry elementary school children in Ft. Lupton. non profit all volunteer program

05/17/2022

As the end of the school year 2021-22 closes I would like to do an update on what is happening with Blessings in a Bag. We started in 2006 and did only one elementary school that year. the next year we did the other elementary school and so on until now we are doing five schools, Butler, Twombly, Little Trappers, Middle School and High School. Giving out on average 65 bags of food with 3 meals each week for the weekend. Just in the past few weeks the government passes the food bill which allows and sponsors the free lunch program. this is such a blessing as for some children that is the only meal they receive. We give a weekly bag the five food groups; protein, fruit, vegetables, grain and dairy. this bag of food goes out for the weekend food for our hungry children in Fort Lupton. We have 28 volunteers who come on Tuesdays and pack the bags. Just a few weeks ago the girl scouts of Fort Lupton donated 65 boxes of cookies, those boxes when that week and I know the children were so excited to receive a whole box of cookies . As we get older we find that some of us are ready to pass the program on and are so blessed to have a Company volunteer to do this. BT Construcion is going to take over the Blessings in a Bag Program as soon as they receive their 501C3 non profit designation. the total bags given our so far since 2006 is 31275, that to end of March this year. Isn't that just amazing. The firemen deliver the bags to the schools each week, they are awesome. These Young Americans are our future and we want them to be the best they can be. Join me in praying for the youth of our great United States of America for their successful future.

Our school year 2019-2020 began with it being our 16th year serving Fort Lupton's RE 8 schools with bags of food for the children in food insecure homes. For 2019-2020 we sent our 2399 bags of week end food to an average of 92 children each week. When school closed in March we arranged with the bus drivers and the school nutritional person and the coach, who picked up the bags and delivered them each Friday to the middle school until the end of the school year, for the busses to deliver to the hungry children. Over the years we have delivered 33674 bags of week end food. As you know we focus on protien and of course include all 5 food groups in each bag. Thank you so much to our wonderful school system for helping to get the bags out during March, April and May. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers that are so willing to step up and spend Tuesday mornings packing bags. we are a team and there is no I in team and we are a team. We started this year 4 weeks ago and are up to 63 bags each week. Always slow starting and with the crazy schedule because of covid, I pray that we will be able to reach the needy children. Pray for our program, God has blessed us and I know He will continue🙂🙂 to.

This week was the last day before Christmas Break so we had many special items to go in the bags. We gave every one a book for the Holiday, a bag of candy, candy cane and Christmas item for decoration, pencil, eraser, little note book, ball. Of course we gave out a large jar of peanut butter and also jelly, 2 milks, 1 V8 juice, cereal, an lovely shinny fresh apple, 1 can of tuna, a Belvita breakfast bar. The Middle School kids got a neat gray cap also. It is so fullfilling to be able to help the hungry children in our community so many come from food insecure homes. We do our best to help them. Merry Christmas to you all.
