October 7, 2023. We remember. ๐๏ธ
Three years later, we remember the lives lost.
We remember those who were taken hostage and the families forever changed.
We remember a day that left an unimaginable mark on Israel and Jewish communities around the world.
And today, we also remember one small way that We Finish Together was able to send love across thousands of miles.
In the aftermath of October 7, we were given the opportunity to send donated race medals to soldiers in Israel.
But before those medals began their journey, something beautiful happened.
Children took medals that had once represented someone elseโs finish line and gave them a new meaning. They drew Israeli flags and Stars of David. They wrote ืขื ืืฉืจืื ืื โ Am Yisrael Chai. They added messages of love, hope, strength and peace.
Then we attached those messages to medals donated by runners from across the country and sent them to Israel.
And eventually, we got to see where they landed. โค๏ธ
Around the necks and in the hands of soldiers thousands of miles away.
That is what We Finish Together has always been about.
A medal may be made of metal and ribbon, but once it is given away, it can become something entirely different.
A reminder that someone is thinking of you.
That someone believes in you.
That you are seen.
That you are not alone.
Today, those words feel especially important.
We remember October 7.
We remember the lives forever changed.
And we will continue doing what we have done from the beginningโusing something as simple as a race medal to connect one human being to another.
May their memories be a blessing.
