We were proud to honor Sergeant Matt Patten, Deputy David Bolderson, Deputy Leonard Brown, Deputy Casey Lorraine Duke, Deputy Humberto Tapia, and Deputy Roberto Yudice of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Oakland Park District at the 2026 Tribute to Bravery Medal of Valor Awards.

They responded to a man in crisis who was actively harming himself inside a vehicle and suffering from severe injuries.

As the situation escalated, Sergeant Patten quickly developed a plan and directed the response.

The deputies moved in together, disarmed the individual, and removed him from the vehicle so emergency medical care could begin.

Because of their coordination and actions under pressure, that person survived and was given a chance to recover.

We were proud to honor Deputy Khirye Allen and Deputy Manuel Smith of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Oakland Park District at the 2026 Tribute to Bravery Medal of Valor Awards.

They responded to a call involving a woman in crisis who ran onto active railroad tracks as a Brightline train approached at full speed.

With only seconds to act, both deputies rushed forward without hesitation and pulled her off the tracks just before the train passed.

There was no time to think, only time to act.

Because of Deputy Khirye Allen and Deputy Manuel Smith, that moment did not end in tragedy.

We were proud to honor Officer Cole Barfield of the Plantation Police Department at the 2026 Tribute to Bravery Medal of Valor Awards.

He took decisive action in two separate life threatening emergencies on the same day.
