Meet Sonia Shah! πŸ™Œβœ¨

Sonia is one of the incredible volunteers powering the Coalition to End Homelessness β€” and we are so grateful to have her.

From researching the real data behind homelessness in Broward to building out the content on our website, Sonia is the kind of person who shows up, digs in, and makes things happen.

This is what grassroots looks like. Real people. Real work. Real impact.

πŸ’‘ And here’s the thing β€” we need more Sonias.

If you’re passionate about ending homelessness in South Florida and want to put your skills to work, we want to hear from you. Researchers, writers, designers, advocates β€” every skill matters here.

Drop a πŸ™‹ in the comments or send us a DM to get involved. Let’s build this together.

You don't have to have all the answers to show up for your neighbors experiencing homelessness. Here's how to start:
πŸ—£οΈ Use your voice. Contact your local representatives and tell them housing is a priority.
πŸ“² Share the facts. Repost, educate, and start conversations in your community.
🀝 Volunteer. Show up at a local shelter or service provider β€” your time matters.
πŸ’¬ Challenge stigma. Push back when you hear harmful assumptions about people experiencing homelessness.
πŸ›οΈ Attend public meetings. City and county commission meetings are where housing decisions get made. Be there.
Every action counts. Homelessness is solvable β€” but only if enough of us demand it.

Housing is Pride. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ
LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than their non-LGBTQ+ peers β€” not because of circumstance, but because of who they are.
Safe, stable housing is a human right. This Pride Month, we're committed to making sure every young person has a place to call home.

Most people don't become homeless overnight. It's a eviction they couldn't recover from. A record that closed every door. No money for first, last, and security.
The Pay the Rent First Program was designed around that reality. $4,500. One family. Permanently housed β€” not cycled through shelters, not back on the street in six months.
The program covers training, rental assistance, and monthly support from a peer counselor β€” someone who has been homeless and is now housed. Because that accountability matters.

For many people experiencing homelessness, their pet isn't just an animal β€” it's their only stable family member. 🐾

Research shows companion animals reduce stress, provide safety, and give people a sense of purpose when everything else is uncertain.

Yet most shelters turn them away. That has to change.

We're working to make homeless services pet-inclusive β€” because no one should have to choose between shelter and the one relationship keeping them going.

Share this. Advocate with us. Link in bio. πŸ”—

All - We are a volunteer based, grassroots nonprofit based in South Florida that receives no government or United Way support. I think there was confusion about our post. We are looking for volunteers - including virtual volunteers from anywhere in the world to give time. We are not asking for financial support. We understand that not everyone is sympathetic to the plight of the unsheltered which is why we have only asked that you share our need for volunteers with others who may be sympathetic. Our website (which is being updated) is www.homelessfl.org Our volunteer application was flooded and shut down. It should be back up now if you want to apply. If the unsheltered population is not something you care about, understood. There are a lot of good causes out there.
