For many people experiencing homelessness, their pet isn't just an animal β€” it's their only stable family member. 🐾

Research shows companion animals reduce stress, provide safety, and give people a sense of purpose when everything else is uncertain.

Yet most shelters turn them away. That has to change.

We're working to make homeless services pet-inclusive β€” because no one should have to choose between shelter and the one relationship keeping them going.

All - We are a volunteer based, grassroots nonprofit based in South Florida that receives no government or United Way support. I think there was confusion about our post. We are looking for volunteers - including virtual volunteers from anywhere in the world to give time. We are not asking for financial support. We understand that not everyone is sympathetic to the plight of the unsheltered which is why we have only asked that you share our need for volunteers with others who may be sympathetic. Our website (which is being updated) is www.homelessfl.org Our volunteer application was flooded and shut down. It should be back up now if you want to apply. If the unsheltered population is not something you care about, understood. There are a lot of good causes out there.

Okay, this is another volunteer recruitment graphic we would like to ask you to share - this time the type is larger, there is less information and it should be easier to view.
For those who ask, "How it works" - if you want to volunteer you can email me ([email protected]) or go to our website (www.homelessfl.org). We do require volunteers to complete an application and a quiz. Volunteers applying for leadership positions may have to return additional documents. We understand that not everyone wants to complete paperwork but have found that those who are too busy to return an application are generally to busy to volunteer. Right now, we are not asking you to volunteer, unless you have the time and interest. We are asking you to share our need for volunteers with your contacts and on your social media.

We are pleased to share with you our updated logo. This logo does several things:
- Clarifies that we are committed to education and advocacy. Indeed we have many campaigns ongoing including the Homeless Bill of Rights,
- Shows that our services and advocacy are not limited to individuals, but include families and even pets.
- Makes clear that we are a grassroots volunteer organization that depends entirely on volunteers to make a difference. We accept no government or United Way funding, we are not beholden to anyone but those we serve.

What do you think?

Thanks the the Libra Foundation for their annual support we have the privilege of being able to invest in community education and advocacy for those without shelter. Yes, it is important to invest in programs that help those without shelter, but programs alone cannot solve the problem when for every person we help, four more become homeless because they cannot afford housing.

Our annual survey is now available on our website: www.homelessfl.org - tell us what's good, what could be better, any great ideas you may have to help those without shelter. Even if you cannot answer all the questions (how effective are our committees) there is room to tell us what you think. We would love to hear from you.

Keep in mind - we are a volunteer organization - so we can only be as good as those who join us.

The last month has been a difficult one for us. Some controversy over the importance of advocacy and education vs. direct services. What are your thoughts? In terms of the condition of homelessness impacting more and more Americans, are services the only thing we need? How important is raising awareness, community education and advocacy?

The Coalition had a great 2025. We received the Candid seal of transparency, given to 1 in every 1.7 million nonprofits for supporting diversity and transparency. We value relationships, transparency, diversity and authenticity. We know that many more people experience homelessness than are reported in official numbers. With housing costs so high, many people are having difficulty paying the rent. We also know that experiencing a season of homelessness has nothing to do with personal failure. Some famous people who have been brave enough to admit they have experienced homelessness:
