Neighbors, your voice matters.

Tonight at 6pm (Tuesday, 4/21/26), the City Commission will discuss Agenda Item M-3 regarding the proposed new City Hall at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Residents can speak for or against the item—this is your opportunity to be heard.

The Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association supports slowing the process and conducting a feasibility study on Tower 101 as a potential City Hall alternative. We believe this step could ensure greater fiscal responsibility and long-term flexibility before committing to a decades-long financial obligation.

We encourage everyone to get informed, show up, and participate in this important decision for our city’s future.

Luck and Laughter on Las Olas

Along bright Las Olas Boulevard the music filled the day,
As our Downtown neighbors gathered for the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Bagpipes proudly echoed while green-clad floats rolled by,
With leprechauns tossing beads that shimmered through the sky.

Friends waved from sidewalks, laughter danced in every cheer,
A lucky little moment that brings our community near.
From the Downtown Civic Association crew we simply want to say—
We had a grand time celebrating together this St. Patrick’s Day. 🍀

A strong and well-attended Annual Membership Meeting for the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association 👏

We began the evening with the presentation of the 2026 Board Slate, which was approved by membership vote by acclamation. Congratulations to our incoming Board as we look ahead to a year focused on advocacy, engagement, and results for downtown.

Special guest speaker Dean Trantalis followed with an update on major projects and priorities shaping our city’s future, including:

▪️ The Las Olas Blvd Mobility Project
▪️ The new City Hall building
▪️ The Commuter Rail–Tunnel for the New River Crossing
▪️ The Old Federal Courthouse
▪️ Huizenga Park
▪️ Key legislation currently being considered at the state level

The Mayor’s remarks were followed by an engaging Q&A session, giving members the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues that matter most to Downtown residents.

The evening concluded with a detailed report from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, who shared updated crime statistics for our downtown area — highlighting how low crime levels remain — along with information on proactive policing efforts and homelessness initiatives aimed at maintaining safety and quality of life in our community.

We look forward to a bright 2026 and continuing to support the interests of our members and all Fort Lauderdale residents.
