From reconnecting with friends and colleagues to dancing, celebration, and plenty of joy, the night was a beautiful reminder of the community behind LGBTQ+ tourism.

Following WTM Africa & Equal Africa, the IGLTA Foundation was proud to co-host a special research networking reception in Cape Town, bringing together industry leaders, academics, and government stakeholders for meaningful exchange and collaboration.

A special thank you to our valued partners and hosts: the Centre for Tourism Research in Africa (CeTRA) at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) for making this evening possible.

The highlight of the night: the official announcement of our new partnership with CeTRA for an upcoming research project on LGBTQ+ tourism in South Africa, a first-of-its-kind study on the continent.

This collaboration marks an important step toward building the data and insights needed to better understand and support LGBTQ+ travelers across Africa, while strengthening the link between research and real-world impact.

At Equal Africa, the IGLTA Foundation was proud to host three impactful Brain Box sessions, bringing together tourism professionals, entrepreneurs, and students to push inclusive travel forward across the continent.

◾️ Pathways to Impact: a powerful exchange on building inclusive tourism businesses, featuring inspiring insights from Vivian Kobe and real-world experiences from across Africa.

◾️ What Matters Most: turning LGBTQ+ traveler values into actionable marketing strategies, equipping industry leaders with data-driven tools to better connect with diverse audiences.

◾️ Emerging Voices: a dynamic dialogue with students, entrepreneurs, and academics exploring how the next generation is shaping a more inclusive future for African tourism.

Across all three sessions, one thing was clear: Africa’s tourism future is being built by bold, collaborative voices committed to inclusion, innovation, and impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their perspectives, and continues to drive meaningful change in our industry.

Destination Ontario has commissioned Context Research Group Inc. (CRG) to conduct a global study to better understand the travel needs, preferences, and experiences of LGBTQ+ travellers. The IGLTA Foundation is a global community partner on this project. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and all responses are strictly confidential and fully anonymous. Your insights will inform more inclusive, welcoming, and affirming travel offerings and marketing initiatives.

We’re on the ground at Equal Africa this week 🌍🤩

Happy to introduce you to Vivian Kobe (she/her), Founder & Managing Director of VIBA Explore Tours Ltd, and this year’s IGLTA Foundation Equal Africa Fellowship recipient.

Based in East Africa, Vivian works across inbound travel and destination management, specializing in designing seamless programs for international tour operators, corporations, associations, and affinity groups.

Her work includes expertise in MICE, cultural immersion, and emerging destinations in East Africa. Committed to inclusive travel, Vivian works with diverse organizations, including LGBTQ+ groups, to create safe, respectful, and authentic experiences supported by strong local partnerships and regional knowledge. 🫶
