Pick up your race packet and walk out with $20 off any running shoe.

Running Wild is hosting packet pickup for our Empowering Children 5K, 1 Mile and Beach Cleanup, and they’re handing everyone who comes in that day a $20 coupon toward any running shoe in the store. It’s good that day only, so plan accordingly if you’ve been eyeing a new pair.

And don’t forget to join us on September 20 for our sunrise event on Hollywood Beach. Run it, walk it, or skip the race and come clean the beach with us after. Every dollar goes to free education for over 15,700 local kids.

Thank you for your kindness and commitment to community, Running Wild.

On August 30, they all line up in Sydney. Here’s who they are and why they’re doing it:

Ana has volunteered at animal shelters and worked alongside anti-poaching teams in Africa.

Sloane calls this the trip of a lifetime, and she’s spending it on someone else.

This race completes all seven world majors for Courtney. She chose to run it for us.

Cristina is chasing the World Majors too, and she’s running this one for the kids in our classrooms.

Erik picked an organization whose mission he says is close to his heart.

Peter said it straight to the point, and is already training.

Mason is taking on Sydney for our programs.

Amanda is running Sydney for the kids too.

Comment “SYDNEY” and we’ll send you their pages so you can back whoever you want.

Most of these kids had never held a discus, a shot put, or a javelin before this afternoon.

Heal The Planet hosted a Track and Field Throws Clinic at Kids in Distress, and we brought in some seriously talented young local throwers to teach it. Kameron McGhie on discus, Kirsten McGhie on shot put, and Aubrey Allen on javelin, with Coach Ayenza Matthews, our Wellness Director, leading the day.

Watching a kid try something completely new for the first time never gets old. Some of them figured out in one afternoon that they’re good at something they didn’t know existed that morning.

A big thank you to Candi James and Kevin Bochenek, and to Dr. Cheryl McGhie, Coach Kay Allen, and our teacher Joanna Joy for all the support. Thank you also to Sprouts Farmers Market in Oakland Park and Jesse Vieux for sponsoring the day and feeding everyone well.

Tell us in the comments which event you would have picked.

We’re celebrating another over 100 POUNDS of trash that came off the beach in one morning.

We want to say a huge thank you to the KFC team for bringing their people out and getting their hands dirty with us. Partners like this are how a coastline gets protected by a whole lot of neighbors who care about the same stretch of sand, and the planet it’s a part of.

Thank you, KFC. Let’s do it again.

Comment BEACH and we’ll send you our next cleanup date.

Somewhere along the way, self-care got turned into a candle and a bubble bath for exhausted adults. But the person who needs it most is the seven-year-old who hasn’t yet learned to run themselves into the ground.

July 24 is International Self-Care Day, and here’s what we keep seeing in our programs…

When you teach a kid to eat real food, to move because it feels good, to actually rest, and to breathe on purpose when the day gets hard, you’re handing them the tools most of us had to figure out the hard way in our thirties.

A child who learns to care for their own body starts to care for the world around it too. It’s the same muscle. That’s the whole reason we fold this into everything we do.

Comment how you’re teaching self-care to your kids in the comments below, and leave a little inspiration for the parents on our page.

Children build their sense of what’s normal by watching the adults they love.

When you keep the bags in the car, when you turn off the tap, when you skip the straw without making it a whole thing, they file it away as simply how people behave. It doesn’t “stick” as a lesson, and that’s exactly why it stays with them.

You can stop trying to be perfect at any of this. You’re raising someone who notices when something needs care and gives it, and that kid grows up and heals things. It started because they watched you.

So let them watch you show up. Bring them to a beach cleanup. Bring them to Young SEEDs. Let them see on your face that this matters to you.

Comment SEEDS and we’ll send you our next free family event.
