The future of learning is here! 🎓✨

Broward Education Foundation was proud to support the celebration of new Extended Reality (XR) technology at Sunrise Middle School. Through a multi-year grant from the College Football Playoff Foundation and Capital One Orange Bowl Committee, with support from Broward Education Foundation, the school received 50 XR headsets, charging and storage carts, and a refreshed Innovation Space designed to inspire collaboration and hands-on learning.

These innovative tools will give students opportunities to explore immersive learning experiences across all content areas. The $500,000 grant will support 10 Broward County Public Schools over five years, helping bring the possibilities of XR technology to classrooms across the district.

We are excited to see how Sunrise Middle School students use these new tools to learn, explore and imagine what’s possible! 🚀

🏈 It’s game time! The Broward County High School National Football Showcase kicks off tonight!

Running August 21–29, the showcase brings together Broward County's top-ranked teams who will face off against nationally prominent programs and some of the most highly recruited student-athletes in the country. Two games will be nationally televised on ESPN2, and thanks to our amazing partners at BECON TV all the other games will be streamed live, giving these rising stars a national platform to compete against elite competition and showcase their talents to college coaches, recruiters, media, and fans across the country.

Exciting news for Broward County Public Schools! 🌱

Larkdale Elementary School has been selected as the ninth school in the country to join Emeril’s Culinary Garden & Teaching Kitchen, the signature program of Emeril Lagasse Foundation. The partnership will bring hands-on culinary, gardening, and nutrition education to over 400 students in grades PreK-5 each year, creating opportunities for generations to come.

The program is built around four core pillars:

🌱 Helping students appreciate and understand where food comes from
🍳 Developing life skills and confidence through growing and preparing food
🥦 Teaching the importance of nutrition and healthy eating
👨‍🍳 Building culinary skills that foster independence and self-reliance

The new culinary garden and teaching kitchen are expected to be completed in February 2027. Teachers will begin introducing the program’s curriculum during the 2026-2027 school year.

Innovation starts in the classroom! Through Broward Education Foundation’s Innovative Grants, educators across Broward County Public Schools are bringing creative, hands-on learning opportunities to students.

With support from an Innovative Grant, Mr. Gonzalez is teaching students STEM Sound Engineering, where they explore the fundamentals of recording, fader controls, panning, and equalization tools. These experiences help students build technical skills while discovering new ways to combine science, technology, engineering, and creativity.

Together, we are empowering the next generation of innovators.

Today, Broward Education Foundation was proud to join Burlington, Broward County Public Schools and the McNab Elementary School community to celebrate the grand opening of Burlington’s new Pompano Beach location and a generous $5,000 investment in McNab Elementary School.

Our President & CEO, James A. Knapp, joined School Board Chair Sarah Leonardi, Countywide School Board Member Debbi Hixon, Principal Dorys Palacio and school and district leaders for the check presentation and celebration.

Partnerships like this are at the heart of the work of Broward Education Foundation. One of our greatest strengths is bringing businesses, community partners and Broward County Public Schools together to create meaningful opportunities and direct resources where they can make the greatest impact for students and educators.

We are grateful to Burlington for choosing to celebrate its newest Broward County location by investing in our schools and demonstrating what true community partnership can look like.

Congratulations to our Board Secretary, Sue Colton, on being named a 2026 Shining Stars Light of the Community Award honoree by the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce! 🌟

We are so proud to celebrate Sue and her decades of dedication to education and the Broward County community. Congratulations, Sue! 💙

✨Meet Our 2026 Shining Stars Honorees✨

Congratulations to Sue Colton on being selected as a recipient of our Light of the Community Award! ⭐

A graduate of Pompano Beach High School and a lifelong educator, Sue has spent decades creating opportunities for students and educators throughout Broward County. During her 32-year career with Broward County Public Schools, she served as a teacher, principal, and Director of Leadership Development. Her work earned her recognition as a National Distinguished Principal, and she opened Parkside Elementary from the ground up.

Retirement certainly didn’t slow Sue down. She has continued to give back through education and community involvement, including her service on the Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation Board. She is also an author, former Broward College adjunct professor, and inaugural member of the Broward Education Foundation’s Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.

And of course, we can’t leave out one of our favorite titles—2020 Pompano Beach Pineapple Jamboree Queen!👑🍍

Sue’s lifelong connection to Pompano Beach and continued dedication to education have made an impact across generations. We are proud to recognize her and look forward to celebrating her at our 2026 Shining Stars Awards & Recognition Luncheon.
