PTPI Fort Lauderdale Student Chapter Together we are willing to make a difference while making friends, and we are willing to About PTPI:
Established in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

We have been given the opportunity through People to People International to promote Peace Trough Understanding in our community by carrying out inspiring projects. We are the People to People International (PTPI) Fort Lauderdale Student Chapter; a membership-based group of students between the ages of 13 and 18 who share a passion for the ocean and marine life! We get together at least 9 times a

year to carry out community service projects related to the ocean and its conservation. We are a non for profit chapter chartered under the People to People Organization. People to People International (PTPI: www.ptpi.org) has a presence in 135 countries with more than 80,000 families and individuals participating in its programs for students and adults. It also has offices in Berlin, Germany (www.ptpe.org) and Cairo, Egypt (www.ptpime.org). PTPI is dedicated to enhancing cross-cultural communication within and across communities and nations. Tolerance and mutual understanding are central themes. While not a partisan or political institution, PTPI supports the basic values and goals of its founder, President Dwight D. PTPI is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri USA. It is a voluntary effort of private citizens promoting international understanding through direct people-to-people contacts. PTPI qualifies for exemption from income tax under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). The organization is funded by program fees, membership dues and donations.

FOR THOSE WHO SMOKE: In case you didn't know... Most likely, when you throw these on the streets, they end up in the water causing pollution.

Each year, the Marine Industries Association of South Florida hosts an essay and short story writing contest for middle and high school students in Broward schools.

Waterway Cleanup Essay (high school students) contest winners receive $500, while Waterway Cleanup short story (middle school students) winners receive $250.

**This year we are proud to announce the 'Debbie Conner Friend of Nature Award' for high school students.

Debbie Conner was a devoted Waterway Cleanup volunteer and adamant protector of all things in nature. In her memory, we are pleased to offer $200 cash as well as awarded plaque for the best 1500 word essay from any high school student, grades 9- 12.

Simply TYPE your essay about what it means to be a true friend of nature, and submit to [email protected], with Friend of Nature in the subject line. Please include your name, email and phone number. Entries must be submitted by February 21, 2014
