Gator Nation celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2026!

Camilo Villegas grew up in Medellin, Colombia, where he became the first player in Colombian golf history to win the Amateur Grand Slam in a single year. He came to UF on a golf scholarship in 2001, helped the Gators win the NCAA Championship as a freshman, and graduated in 2004 with a business administration degree. He turned pro that same year and earned his PGA Tour card in 2006.

In 2008 he won back-to-back FedEx Cup playoff events, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship, and reached a career-high world ranking of No. 7. He added a win at the 2010 Honda Classic, and in November 2023 he captured his fifth PGA Tour title at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, nine years after his previous win.

Gator Nation celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2026!

Marisa Gonzalez Eubanks graduated from UF's College of Journalism and Communications in 1989 with a degree in advertising, but she made history before she even picked up her diploma, becoming the first woman to chair Student Government Productions after two years as vice chair.

That trailblazing spirit carried into her career: she helped launch Maersk Line's marketing and sales training across the Caribbean, built a multi-million dollar marketing budget at Akerman Senterfitt during a period when the firm doubled its attorney count, and became the first marketing professional ever hired by law firm Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, where she spent nearly two decades as Director of Marketing. After more than 30 years in legal marketing, communications, and business development coaching, Marisa recently retired to start her next chapter.

Gator Nation celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month 2026!

Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega earned his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from UF in 1975, and went on to a career that shaped engineering education across the country. Of Puerto Rican descent, he was the first Hispanic to serve as acting head of the National Science Foundation's Engineering Directorate.

His ideas at NSF led to the GOALI program, which connects university researchers with industry partners, and the Research Experiences for Teachers program, which brings K-12 teachers into hands-on research. He later served as dean of engineering at the University of South Florida and then at NC State University, and in 2021 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. He was also named National Hispanic Scientist of the Year in 2007. 🔬
